The first-ever Indian restaurant to land in Otorohanga, The Tandoor Tavern is a quick drive from the Waitomo Caves, making your day out a whole lot tastier.

They're chic and modern with a contemporary design that makes the space feel limitless. A gridded ceiling and pinstriped walls gives the venue a crisp and clean look where everything is just so and not a chair is out of place. Nevertheless, it's still approachable and friendly with comfy seating and an informal bar at the helm.

The list of appetisers might be longer than your arm, but don't let that put you off any difficult decisions. With crispy fried fish, satay chicken, seekh kebab and garlic prawns on the list, there's so much to tease your appetite before mains.

Mains go head-first into a killer range of curries that range from balti lamb, beef madras, mango chicken and even a venison curry. Fresh seafood also takes shape beautifully with prawn jalfrezi and the chef's special fish curry whilst vegetarians can have their fill of palak paneer, veg korma and malai kofta.
