A modern pub in the heart of Matamata, the Merchant of Matamata is where locals and visitors can always find great feed, friendly service and a brilliant range of local and international beers to go alongside.

No-frills dining makes a refreshing return in the form of this contemporary gastropub. Unlike most pubs, you have heaps of space to stretch out with your gang and yarn away in relative peace.

So, will you be there for brunch, lunch or supper? If it's the former, Kiwi classics rule with mince on sourdough toast, and the Merchant Breakfast with all the trimmings (including hash browns and sausages). As for something more 'lunchy' you might want to look at the light menu that includes small portions of fish and chips, chicken pasta and lambs fry.

For supper, there's no holding back. They're going all in with scotch fillet steak with potato rostis and beef jus, gnocchi in a devilishly rich pesto sauce, and signature fried chicken. They also have a stunning selection of craft burgers and handmade pizzas on offer. It's true what they say, the Merchant of Matamata knows exactly what the people want.
