Known for its spectacular lakefront views and exquisite food, The Bathhouse is one of Queenstown’s hidden gems.

Built in 1911, with regal architecture and floor-to-ceiling windows, The Bathhouse is a unique building right on the beach. Soak in those views of the lake and mountains from inside the cosy restaurant, or enjoy the sunshine on the spacious deck.

The perfect spot for breakfast, enjoy all your Kiwi favourites, from eggs benedict and fresh salmon, to their signature big breakfast with streaky bacon and potato rosti. Fancy something lighter? Try the fresh fruit salad with unsweetened natural yoghurt and tasty toasted muesli.

As night settles over the lake, The Bathhouse lights up, serving a seasonal dinner menu of modern New Zealand fare. Warm up with the signature seafood chowder, or tuck into the slow-braised beef brisket. Delicious vegetarian dishes are also available, as well as to-die-for desserts (try the fondant and thank us later!).

The Bathhouse is got to be one of the most iconic restaurants in Queenstown - complete lakefront, historic building, beautifully restored and styled. We had never had more than drinks and snacks there before over the years, so finally took the time to have a family Anniversary dinner. Our waitress was sweet and professional. The menu is small - just a few choices of entrees, mains and desserts - but some of the best restaurants we have ever eaten at have been in that category. Baked Camembert with breads - Yum! The Seafood Chowder was delicious, creamy, but not too rich. Pumpkin Gnocchi was good and different from the usual. For us personally, the fact there was Black Pudding in the Chicken mains meant we were left with Lamb as the only meat option - but happily so! The Lamb melted off the bone and beautifully flavoured. Wine list is sufficient and a good variety. Brilliant gently flavoured cinnamon Creme Brulee to follow! We had a great night and would happily take friends back to The Bathhouse!

Thank you to the chef and staff at the Bathhouse for a great dining experience. Three of us had the rib-eye steak, which was very tender and tasty. The lamb shoulder was also melt-in-your mouth. We also loved the seafood chowder and tortellini for starters, and it was sublime finishing off with the chocolate dessert. Even although we are locals, we still love being able to look across the bay to the lights of Queenstown. We highly recommend the Bathouse restaurant.

It was pouring with torrential rain as we made our way to The Bathhouse, but when we got there it was totally worth it for our trouble. We were welcomed straight away and shown to our private table with wonderful views of the lake and beach front. Despite the weather, our views and cosy position with my 3 companions at the table was perfect. I chose a glass of Roaring Meg Pinot Noir to complement my Slow Braised Lamb Shoulder , which was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Two of my companions had the seafood chowder which they could not fault whilst the third of our group had the Steward Island Blue Cod , which was commented by her as being the best she has ever had. Two of us had the Pumpkin Cheesecake for dessert which was an excellent choice and I'd recommend to all, and the Peanut Creme Brulee chosen by our third companion was nothing short of perfect.
Overall, a wonderful experience. We'll be back, and would recommend others try . Great food, great wine, great service . What else do you want?

Really friendly team, great table with a magnificent view across the lake and so peaceful.
Rocket pear and blue cheese salad really fresh, blue cod dish was amazing and good sized portion of fish (the presentation was impeccable) sorry no photo!, the gnocchi dish was delicious hubby reports.
Pumpkin cheesecake yum yum only restaurant in town doing this I think..trend in the making right here.
Could not fault the food. We are locals and haven't been here in a very long time, but very happy we connected again. Definitely a cosy place to go.
Its a little off the beaten track at night which we find nice. Would keep the candles burning on the outside tables, to attract attention that the restaurant is open, and it almost needs a little beacon to draw people in.
Maybe light up the crown on top !
With that playground being reconstructed I reckon a good idea for the menu would be a 'Playground Platter' tailored for Mums, Dads and the kids - would appeal I think during the daytime hours.
Happy Weekend !

It was great! We pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves before the ‘dinner rush’ we are used to having ‘early’ dinner. Great service, amazing food.

This was our first meal in Queenstown and wasn’t disappointed. The service was friendly and helpful, not only with the meal but also with questions about the local area.
Our meal
Starter: we shared the Bruschetta which had a creamy goat cheese flavour.
Mains: I had the Seafood Chowder which was full of flavour and a large slice of toasted buttered sourdough, which was a lovely addition.
My wife had the pumpkin gnocchi, which she enjoyed immensely and actually continued the flavours from the starter meal.
Dessert: I had the Affogato Key, which was a terrific way to end the evening as it included a super espresso shot and I chose frangelico. I just poured it all over the vanilla bean ice cream and “wow.” My wife had a Caramel Creme Brûlée, which she totally enjoyed, but also had a sip from my glass of espresso delight : )

The menu is very basic with only 4 main course options but the food was amazing. We ordered the Pork belly entrée followed by the antipasti platter to share and we were not disappointed! Presented beautifully and great flavours. The staff were all wonderful and the views stunning

Probably the best first table experience I’ve had in Queenstown so far! The food was delicious, we shared the baked Camembert to start which was beautiful and then we had the salmon and lamb. Portions weren’t huge but I was definitely full after the cheese and lamb. I like how they only have a few options, it makes life easy and you know the chef will know the dishes well.
Service was great! Informal but professional and they gave us a great deal. Thanks guys! :)

Wonderful location and view on the lake with a building that has a nostalgic feel.
Attentive staff and wholesome, flavourful food. Highly recommended as a location for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or simply a hot drink. We tried all 3 times of the day and were not disappointed.

Our first impression of this historic building was its quaint ambience and superior location on the foreshore of Lake Wakatipu. Although there is seating outside to enjoy the vista (during the day), on this cool winter evening we were seated at the window in a quiet corner. The restaurant has a fire place and is cosy and warm. Beginning with mulled wine, our menu selections were beautifully presented, abundant serves and absolutely delicious. In addition, the table service was welcoming and very attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and recommend this experience. Thank you to The Bathhouse ladies.

So so good! Lucky enough to have a table in this beautiful quaint restaurant right in the middle of the luma festival. Was a real treat. Food was impeccable!! We all ordered different mains and all divine. Walked away satisfied and unfortunately didn’t have room for dessert. Hopefully next time!!

We had a wonderful evening at The Bathhouse last night - a roaring fire, cool music and candlelight made the little pavilion a delightful place to be on a rainy evening. The staff were warm and friendly and the food was cooked with great care and skill with a beautiful presentation. The Gingerbread creme brulee was especially good. Thanks for a magical night. Highly recommended.

This is one of Queenstown’s most iconic settings located right on the shoreline looking straight down the lake. Stunning. The dishes were beautifully presented & all delicious. We would easily order each again next time. The feel is one of relative intimacy, cosy and the warmth of the staff only add to a memorable evening.
