Tucked down Searle Lane in the heart of Queenstown’s CBD, Retro's is a new lounge bar promising good times until the small hours.
Open from the evening to the early hours every day, it blends retro sounds with easygoing hospitality, the kind of place where live music rolls into DJ sets and the pool table gathers a friendly crowd. With Sky Sports on for the big events, it is equally at home as a pre-game pit stop or a post-midnight refuge.
The kitchen leans into classic comfort with a Kiwi accent. Think garlic bread with a grilled cheesy topping and deep fried camembert paired with cranberry, before pub stalwarts like beer-battered hoki fish and chips with tartare or a ribeye steak slicked with garlic butter or mushroom sauce.
Burgers pack a nostalgic punch, not least the kiwi burger, a tower of NZ angus and the works, with homemade mayo and fries alongside; the chicken burger keeps it crisp with aioli, bacon and pickles. Sundays nod to tradition with the Sunday lamb roast, complete with potato, kumara, pumpkin and peas.
Casual, lively and easy on the wallet, Retro's pairs retro service and retro prices with zero pretence. Retro's invites locals and travellers to gather their mates and make a date, this is one time machine not to be missed.
