Shiraz Indian Restaurant Kamo carries a proud Whangārei story that began in 1996.

At its heart is owner-chef Jaswant Singh Minhas, originally from Punjab, who first joined Shiraz while studying business management, then purchased the original Whangārei restaurant in 1998. From those early days grew a family of branches, including Kamo, each shaped by Jas’s passion for authentic Indian food and a genuine taste of Indian culture.

In the kitchen, traditional tandoori ovens take centre stage, imbuing naans, meats and vegetarian tandoori dishes with that unmistakable char and fragrance. The culinary lens is broad and warmly nostalgic - street-side favourites such as aloo tikki and chaat papdi mingle with timeless curries, from butter chicken and chicken tikka masala to beef korma and rogan josh. Lamb finds comfort in cashew and yoghurt gravies or folds into earthy spinach for lamb saag, with sauces that are plush, spiced and deeply satisfying.

Guided by chefs who’ve honed their craft in some of India’s top hotels, the team keeps the experience evolving, introducing new ideas while safeguarding the flavours that locals love. It’s food to share, to linger over, and to savour with good company.
