In Strowan, Christchurch, The Elmwood Trading Co brings comforting classics together with vibrant global touches.

The kitchen glides effortlessly from the sea to the grill, opening with small plates made for sharing - think salt and pepper calamari or a garlicky prawn hot pot boasting a kick of chilli - before progressing into heartier territory.

Heartier options focus on well-loved favourites prepared with care. Expect pork belly paired with crisp apple slaw, a ribeye steak alongside a choice of duck fat potatoes or fries, and a lamb shoulder roast finished in a savoury jus.

For those craving fragrant warmth, the Balinese chicken curry accompanied by jasmine rice delivers gentle spice and soothing richness. Burgers get the spotlight too, not least The Elmwood Burger - a house signature layered in classic trimmings.

Sweet tooths are well looked after, whether indulging in a chocolate torte crowned with vanilla ice cream or a nostalgic sundae swirled in berry compote and chocolate sauce.

A selection of fine teas and coffees bookends the experience nicely, ranging from Earl Grey to espresso and latte. It all adds up to an easy-going meal, whether you're sharing plates, settling in for a roast, or popping by for pudding and a hot drink.
