Incredible mezze food. Even my carnivorous husband agreed the cauliflower dish was absolutely delicious! Great service and super cool atmosphere. House beer was spot on for a fabulously hot day.

The food is fantastic - I've been many times and the meals are always spot on. Such a selection of healthy, tasty food with something for everyone. Great value for money that allows you to try a little bit of everything! And some of the menu items change seasonally which means you always have something new to look forward to.

One of my favourite eating spots. Great to take families, work groups, you name it :)

4 of us dined and all enjoyed their meals. We shared some starters and sides with our chosen mains. The servings were generous and the bean and the carrot sides were the winners. Too full for dessert so will save that for a well anticipated return visit. Do try it!

This place is just fabulous.. all round. From decor, funky fun and comfortable, to the staff and omg... the food is amazing. The little twist on flavours, slightly Mediterranean Greek maybe... but so contemporary and fun... loved it.

I do have to say they put a bummer at the start of the dinner by not having the halloumi which is insanely good, but they made up for it with everything else being...insanely good. Always a favourite of ours, can't recommend highly enough

Super friendly staff, loving the big heaters to sit under on a cold Chch evening, great family friendly menu and sooooo yum! Even had brussel sprouts on the menu for the weirdo one in a million sprout fan and they were awesomely yum! As Arnie says ‘I’ll be back’

We were really impressed with the atmosphere, food and service at Welles Street. Our kids chose fish 'n chips from the kids menu, and said it was the "best dinner ever". The lamb was melt-in-the-mouth gorgeous, and the octopus - yes, octopus - meze was delicious too. Some of the best hand cut skin-on shoestring fries ever, delicious salads and a pint of great craft IPA topped off an amazing experience that our whole family enjoyed. A++ will definitely trade again!

Great time dining at Welles St. The venue is really warm for such a large space. Staff are friendly. Flavour combinations are on point. The menu is easy to read and easy to navigate. I had the fish souvlaki while my friends shared dishes amongst themselves. A good selection of tap beers had my attention. Welles St does well to cover their bases.

Arriving at Welles Street yesterday evening, we were taken by how open yet friendly the venue was. Modern, stylish and laid-back are words that come to mind. There is also a large bar for those who fancy a drink before or after their meal.

We ordered 2 mezzes and 2 sides from a wide selection of Mediterranean dishes, vegan and vegetarian options included.
We were not disappointed with our choice.

The dishes were prepared with attention and served up in great speed.
We ordered falafels, hummus and feta fries. Everything was perfectly cooked and very flavorful, but the highlight of the meal were definitely the haloumi fries !
They were juicy, crispy and served with fresh vegetables, with a lovely pomegranate sauce.

You can really tell these guys care about the taste as much as the presentation.
It is also worth noting that the staff are very pleasant people, who clearly want to work there. Who wouldn’t? Amazing atmosphere, amazing food. 10/10 for sure.

The food was amazing! Flavoursome, they catered to our requests and although there were only a few 'main' dishes there were lots of 'mezze' and salad options. My roast lamb was incredible!! Beautiful flavours and combinations.

Dining at Welles Street was awesome! I took my partner on a wee date and were instantly welcomed when we entered. We had the option of sitting inside or out and we opted for outside in the sun. When I went to order the staff were incredible friendly, helpful and personable. They were excited to hear it was our first time and really catered for us to have a good night. The food was delicious. My boyfriend had the half chicken and I had the fish souvlaki. The flavours were perfect. My partner is Tongan and he said the chicken and mash potatoes with gravy were definitely better than KFC so props to you guys! We ended the night with one of the wait staff coming to clear our table and asking about our food and how we enjoyed it. The was all in all a great night! We also love the location and the building, it’s laid out really well, spacious, inviting and just generally cool with all the plants....definitely instagramable. Highly recommend!

Great space, suitable for all ages children in prams, wheelchairs etc. Have been here numerous times as this is one of my favs. At a glance the menu looks small but upon studying it you soon realize that it has something for all. Each time I come I have a new dish but also I have to order my favs. Ouzo prawns is a must have and the lamb main is so so tender . I cannot leave without a yogurt freeze .

We visited Welles Street for dinner, having popped in before for drinks but not ordered food (except for the greek yogurt soft serve, which is ace!). We were with a friend who is gluten and dairy free. This presented no problem with Welles Street - there was plenty to choose from on the menu which was gluten free and dairy free anyway, but staff happily swapped the bread for our dips with gluten free bread.

Additionally, the food was excellent. We had a smoky eggplant dip, which was superb. The lamb hummus was also delicious. Both were topped with crispy chickpeas and spices, which really elevated the dishes. We also shared the calamari, which was cooked perfectly, and a rotisserie chicken. The chicken had lightly spiced skin and came on a hefty pile of chips, with coleslaw and a spicy, herby green sauce.

As usual, Welles Street had a great range of beers on, as well as rose and margaritas on tap. The staff are so helpful and knowledgeable. We will certainly be returning and have recommended the food to a number of people already.

All round, we had a fantastic experience with delightful food and good drinks. We would return in a heartbeat.

Had a great dining experience at Welles Street on a breakfast date with my sister! This was actually our second “date” at Welles Street and this visit was every bit as fantastic as the first. The sunny central-City atmosphere is lovely and it’s so nice to watch everything happening on the street outside as you eat your meal and sip coffee: runners, cars, dogs, buskers etc. Both times the staff have been absolutely wonderful: friendly, cheerful, helpful and engaging. I really love the pub-like but somehow Mediterranean feel of the place. Would like to thank the lovely girls that served us yesterday. The food was also amazing: One of the things my sister and I like most about the menu is the attempt to actually do different things. So aside from the usual Eggs Benedict there are some truly yummy and slightly different options such as Baghdad eggs with smoked yoghurt (a must try), beef kofta, hummus and pita bread, as well as delectable hot cakes and a big breakfast to die for: eggs (I had them poached and they were perfection) avocado, potatoes hasselbacks (so good!!) an aromatic lemony dressing on the side, creamy humus, feta and a choice of falafel and houlimi or sausage and bacon. The smoothie option I declined this time (a wise choice because of the sheer amount of food: the meals are ridiculously good value) but very much enjoyed the creamy banana date smoothie I had at my first visit. My sister very much enjoyed her avocado toast with spring onion salsa, dukkah and eggs and the option of adding as many things to it as you wanted :) The coffee on both trips was spot on. Will definitely be back: one of the best breakfast menus and locations in Christchurch!

We love Welles Street! - The food is delicious, particularly from the Mezze section of the menu. Tried to chicken also, and it was very tender and cooked to perfection. Yum Yum! It's a casual place, so you place your order yourself at the kitchen, but so delicious and pretty quick too. Nice beers on tap!

We were greeted with a friendly welcome and seated at a table and the process of ordering etc was clearly explained, including what specials of the day were available and a couple of items they were low/run out of. We ordered our drinks at the bar which were lovely and cool on a hot day and the four of us poured over the menu trying to decide what we wanted - the choice of food options made choosing hard! We settled for the crispy squid and lamb and hummus - both of which were delicious! We could have done with more of the yummy pita bread too! We had the whole chicken with chips and slaw for our main - again delicious and the dukkah sprinkled slaw and garlic mayo dressing were superb. We finished off the evening with the chocolate fudge and cinnamon doughnut dessert. It was a great evening out complimented by delicious food. Thank you!

We all enjoyed a lovely family Sunday dinner! The food was excellent – Thanks Chef! We all thoroughly enjoyed our choices and sampling each other’s. I personally LOVED the Loaded Lamb Hummus, but I did suffer "food envy" as The Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder on Artichoke Mash "special" that the majority of our group chose looked SO delicious, as did the Chicken Souvlaki! Being a big fan of Bruschetta myself, I also highly recommend this delicious concoction on Welles St's own yummy house made Baribari Bread, this scrummy bread was also an amazing accompaniment to the Baked Feta with honey, chilli and almonds ... Again YUM! We also chose sides of Loaded Fries and the Charred Broccoli and Chickpeas. Our table of four was well and truly fed with enough to take home for a couple of Monday work lunches :) Staff were really attentive, explained everything on the menus well. The venue was surprisingly cosy/warm on a cool Autumn evening. Thank you team Welles Street! Like Arnold ... We will be back!

We had lunch at Welles Street on a sunny Sunday and really enjoyed it. The vibe was pretty relaxed, it wasn’t very busy when we first arrived. It’s a big space so even when more people arrived, including quite a big group, it still felt like we had our own space inside. It’s counter-service so you can easily take your time to think about whatever food or drinks you want then just head over to the bar to order and pay. The food we had (chicken, fish souvlaki and a grain/salad bowl) was delicious. The only negative we encountered was we couldn’t get on the free wifi, mentioned to staff and they “reset it” for us, but still didn’t seem to work, not a big deal unless you’ve planned to do some “work” while you’re there.
We saw people coming in for family lunch, for a date lunch, for beers outside in the sun, for a group lunch and wine with friends or coworkers.. seems like it’s a venue that can suit everyone! We’ll look forward to going back again for more delicious food and the relaxed atmosphere.

We had a friends' night out at this restaurant and had a brilliant time! We ordered 2 tapas and the rotisserie lamb. The lamb was was perfect--almost falling apart so soft! The tapas were delicious, especially the patatas bravas; crispy with a spicy hummus. We also had a prawn entree which came with this sauce that accompanied the prawns really well. Since we booked through First Table the price was also excellent. Recommend! Oh yeah, and lovely staff, too.

This wasn't our first visit to Welles St so we knew to expect food of a high standard, imaginative and well presented. We were not disappointed and enjoyed a mezze spread of calamari, chicken wings, hummus and lamb, falafel and veggie salads. The portions are generous and the food is plated in creative ways bringing together many flavours and colours that definitely compare favourably with food eaten in the Middle East. A couple of dishes were over salty for our palates but the plentiful sauces helped mitigate this. We will be returning to Welles St in the near future to continue our journey through their menu.

Never been to 44 Welles Street . Very basic restaurant, dull lighting which made one feel cold. Not many people in restaurant which makes one wary. Basic pub food, though chips which are hand cut were soft and over cooked. Cigarette smoke wafted into the restaurant from smokers outside. Used first table thank goodness as 50% off the bill. Would not be going back.
