Everything was fantastic! I haven’t been since the new vegan menu came out and I was so impressed with the dishes I got.
The Sev Puri was a great starter and the Vegetable Makhani was the closest thing I’ve had to a butter chicken in years.
My parter really enjoyed his chicken curry too, particularly the generous portion size.
So great to see amazing options for all preferences.
The ambience is lovely and the staff are all friendly and attentive.
We will definitely be back soon!

We had an absolutely superb evening at Mumbaiwala. Not only was the food delicious, but our waiter was the sweetest! He took the time to talk to us about life in India - specifically, Mumbai. Even though the restaurant was busy and he had a lot to do, he always made time to come back and continue our conversation! The second highlight of our evening would have to be their toilets, yes toilets! Honestly, it is like being transported to a different world! In fact, the entire layout and ambience of this restaurant significantly adds to its overall experience. 10/10! Definitely going back (Soon!).

Delicious food, the starters were amazing, never had any like that before, great service, very friendly, great dinner out

- dined at Mumbaiwala on

The fit-out is just as though you are in India and very authentic Mumbai atmosphere. The food was tasty and the garlic naan crispy and the best I’ve ever had. The food was fresh and tasty and it was a great experience all round.

Delicious food and great friendly service. The street food options are refreshingly different to what you would typically get in an NZ Indian restaurant, the Aloo tikki chaat, Chana dahl chaat, and Squid bhajee were all excellent. Beautiful curries and perfect naan. Highly recommended. Good drinks list and extensive vegan menu.

Mumbaiwala is a regular Indian restaurant for my family. This is because everything here is awesome. We tried some new mains but continued to order a good selection of the street foods as these varied tastes are so interesting. Service is always friendly and I’m beginning to suspect they recognise us when we arrive. Thanks for the great food Mumbaiwala!

We had a great time here. Excellent service, great food, and generous portions. The menu is a bit unique compared to most other Indian places you might usually try, but everything we tried was fantastic and added to the experience. Would highly recommend.

I've been looking for more cultured unique dining experiences and this fit the bill perfectly! The atmosphere here was amazing and our waiter was lovely and very welcoming. They seriously thought of everything. All the small touches in decor just created such an amazing experience for my daughter and I. Would definitely recommend and definitely coming back here again! Thank you. Oh and the Dahi Puri was our favorite!

Super authentic food, the curries were unlike anything else I’ve had in Christchurch. Waitstaff were happy to tell us about the food and its origins. We had a really great time!

Mumbaiwala is our go to Indian restaurant in Christchurch. It never fails to deliver consistent quality food. Each time we come, we try another item from their street food menu section. This time we tried the Vindaloo chicken wings. Sometimes Vindaloo is just hot for the sake of it. However, theirs is just delicious. Yes, it is hot. But, the flavour doesn't get lost in the heat, it is still enjoyable. Well done chefs!

Located in 300m walking distance from Christchurch cathedral, Mumbaiwala offers tasty Indian food. The portions are quite big, offering a decent value for money, even without the First Table discount. As a starter I tried Dabeli, a sort of slider, as a main I chose Murgh Makhani (Butter Chicken). Both were really good, especially the main dish. The service was really fast and attentive, the host seemed genuinely happy about us being there. Can highly recommend visiting the restaurant, we'll definitely go there again.

Arrived slightly early - welcome into the restuarant was genuinely warm and friendly. As this was our first First Table, we had a few questions - all answered professionally and courteously. Service was prompt, waiting time minimal, food portions very generous, and extremely tasty!
Loos are an experience! Well done.
Highly recommend the Mumbaiwala. We'll be back.
First Table is excellent timing for a pre-theatre/concert dinner.

My friend and I are both 'foodies', and were super impressed with the 'twist' to each of the dishes we ordered. We are still pondering on certain flavours, but can't quite get what they are. Everything succulent and super thank you.

Mumbaiwala was great!! The service was excellent, attentive but not over the top and professional. The food options were so exciting and we loved the corn and broccoli to start followed by a curry and a naan with onion and coriander. Such great flavour combinations. Yummy cocktails too! Thanks guys - a unique taste experience.

What a great place to dine. Ambience and aromas fantastic. We were all ready for a great Authentic Indian meal. Mumbaiwala didn't disappoint. All guests chose 3 dishes each to share. Fantastic food and great service. Best Indian food ever. We'll be back

A wonderful evening with very attentive, yet not intrusive, staff and a relaxing atmosphere filled with music of just the right volume, so as to be able to talk with my company without having to raise our voices. The meals (I would recommend the Sali Boti for those who enjoy lamb) were full with flavour and large in portion. My partner particularly enjoyed the Makhani Broccoli entrée. Thanks to the staff for the fantastic meals and service. We will definitely be returning soon

Our first time here at Mumbaiwala and we will definitely be back. We decided to try lots of the smaller dishes to make the most of such a varied menu. All the dishes were amazingly flavoursome; some standouts were the cauliflower Manchurian, the Mumbai chicken, the lamb chops. We also got a curry - Murgh Makhani (butter chicken) - with some garlic naan. This was beautifully rich and aromatic and was a hit with the whole family. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be back to try out some new dishes and to revisit some of those favorites.

What an awesome evening. The restaurant had a great vibe and the meal was so delicious. Everything was light and packed with flavour, we couldn’t decide what our favourite dish was - the paneer skewer from the tandoor, the puri puffs, the butter chicken (of which we could have drunk the sauce as a smoothie it was so good). Till next time Mumbaiwala... save us a seat!

Absolutely delicious. The spices are such a compliment to every dish, even when you walk in the smell is unique. The Indian drinks such as the falooda was like having dessert as an entree. Can’t wait to go back and try more.

One word A-MAZ-ING
The food at this restaurant is spectacular. There was so much to choose from we decided to go for 5 of the smaller dishes. Everyone of them were epic. The surroundings were done to a very high standard which added the the entire experience. From start to finish nothing could be faulted.

Lovely meal and great atmosphere. We ordered dahi puri, lamb kofta and coconut prawns to start ~ all delicious, but beware, those kofta are spicy! For our mains we chose the paneer karahi and lamb dhansk, with naan and boondi raita ~ the perfect amount for the four of us, with nothing left over to take home! We had just enough room for dessert to share some chocolate naan (yum!) and cardamom and pistachio kulfi (double yum!). The menu isn't large at Mumbaiwala, so was missing my usual favourite mains, but the dishes we ordered were tasty! We decided our favourite dishes of the night were the puri, kofta, raita and kulfi!

Well, what a great, first time experience for the four of us at Mumbaiwalla. Our waitress explained things really well, made excellent suggestions - which we followed - and thought that we'd done absolutely the right thing. The food came very quickly, was interestingly different from the usual Indian food offerings, and absolutely delicious. The Chana Dal Chaat and Sev Puri stood out and finishing with the Orange and Ginger Shrikhand was divine. Will definitely be back. Oh, and don't leave before a visit to the loos - an (almost) authentic experience!

- dined at Mumbaiwala on

We had fabulous experience at Mumbaiwala! The service was swift and pleasant. The staff answered questions that made the delicious food even more enjoyable because we gained insight into what were eating. We loved the chana dal chaat, three other tasty treats and finished with the orange yoghurt with figs. We'll return to Mumbaiwala soon! And, don't forget to visit the unique loo, too!

Our senses were engaged the moment we stepped into Mumbaiwala. Sight, smell, sounds, and....taste. The wonderful host explained the menu with a magic smile and courteous flair. We were hooked before we even tried the food. Everything came efficiently and with care. The food was divine. The broccoli in coconut sauce has already become a favourite. And the other creative takes on curry and baos were delicious. And chocolate naan? Ooo la la. Having been to the real Mumbai, this was a real treat in the comfort of Christchurch. We will definitely go back. Tomorrow?

Huge congratulations to the chefs and wait staff at Mumbaiwala . Amazing authentic dishes with a flavour experience that everyone needs to try. A selection of street food and mains so diverse you are spoilt for choice. Our favourites this night was the cauliflower in a spicy sauce, brocolli a must have , Mumbai chicken and the smokey spiced creamy butter chicken was a delight. Washed down with large ice cold Kingfisher beer. A great evening and one we will repeat in the near future.

My husband and I had been wanting to try mumbaiwala for some time. We booked through first table later on Saturday afternoon as we found ourselves child free for the rest of the day. We will absolutely be going back!

Ordered four dishes in total. Three of them were served as appetizers and were nice, different but nothing special. Then the butter chicken came. It was perfect in every aspect - one of the best dishes I had in Christchurch so far. I would guess their best dishes are under the "in the pot" section of the menu. Ambience is also well made, make sure you visit the toilets. Highly recommended place - will definitely come back in the future.
