Christchurch's star Irish pub, Micky Finn's is frequented by families, parties and after-work drinkies, all of them looking for comforting homemade nosh with a side of entertainment.
You really can't go wrong with an Irish pub and Micky Finn's is no different. It's warm, familiar and jovial, putting everyone at ease with the usual redwood setup, plus an army of engulfing sofas, some pub games and a stage for all the hottest local talent. Like all Irish pubs, Micky Finn's has cultivated a local following that ensures they're full to the rafters every evening of the week.
And if it isn't to see other fellow locals, everyone's heading this way for the food. Expect comfort food every which way, from cheesy pizzas with pepperoni, smoked salmon and Greek lamb, to towering burgers that are stacked with succulent patties and all the delicious extras.
They're serving all the pub classics too, of course. We're talking heartwarming plates like fish and chips, featuring pan seared or beer battered blue cod, slow cooked beef cheek in penang curry, served with steamed broccoli topped with crushed peanuts, and a meltingly tender lamb shank cooked with potatoes in a rich coconut and spice infused massaman curry sauce. And let's not forget their light meals and bites that are serving up stews, pies and croquettes for those who don't want to be rolled home. But after a couple of Murphy's, it's likely to be on the cards anyway...
