Hidden within the heart of Christchurch Central, Midnight Shanghai has been gaining momentum as the city’s hottest Yum Cha Bar.

Specialising in modern Shanghainese cuisine, Executive Chef Andy Su prides himself on his magical creations, which infuse iconic Shanghainese flavours with inspirations gathered from his travels around the world.

Step into a vibrant space designed to embody the spirit and culture of Shanghai. Midnight Shanghai is perfect for a night out with friends and cosy enough for a date night. Set the evening off with shared plates of BBQ pork ribs, Sichuan spicy Dan Dan noodles, and Shanghai-style pork belly fried rice. Alternatively, grab some garlic prawns served with broccoli, sliced almonds, and black garlic aioli.

Explore the yum cha selection with the pulled beef cheek spring rolls, chicken and peanut wontons, and crystal prawns, which are must-tries. For something larger, indulge in the black pepper beef hot plate, Kong Pao chicken, and night market lamb.

The drinks department has something for every sipper, with beer, ciders, wine, and cocktails or mocktails on the menu. The midnight Shanghai cocktail is a must-try, which combines vanilla vodka, Tequila liqueur, passionfruit, lemon, and chilli.
