With Barberra in its centre, Christchurch has never looked so chic. It's ultra-modern, cool and focussed around local ingredients.

Choose from shared or individual plates. Pop in for a wine, a snack, just dessert or a full meal; the choice is yours! We have curated our menus based on fresh, seasonal ingredients and the flavours and influences of both local suppliers and the Pacific Rim. Both our food and beverage menus feature a large number of plants and flowers from our Sydenham and roof-top gardens.  We believe in a root and stalk philosophy, reusing as much of the plant as possible. Our proteins are all free range and line caught where possible. You will see a large range of our dishes are gluten free, keto friendly, and easily adaptable to make vegetarian or vegan. Our custom built charcoal grill is a huge feature to our open plan kitchen - if you are wanting to watch the kitchen we recommend requesting a high table when you book, or even to sit at the kitchen pass and watch the chefs while you eat.

To say its spacious would be an understatement. Its high ceilings, enormous windows (that are covered with uber stylish shutters) and hanging plants make it a wonderfully restorative spot. Its simple colour scheme of brown, black and white certainly proves that less is more.

All four of us were impressed with the quality. flavour and presentation of the food. This is a restaurant that is a cut above other restaurants in Christchurch. Linen napkins, spacious table, space between the tables and a spacious feel to the restaurant. We had a wide selection from the menu. All dishes were characterised by having a variety of components that gave excellent texture and taste to the dishes, Very good service. this is well worth a visit. We were recommended by friends and they were correct. Do not give this one a miss. You must support restaurants of this calibre.

Brilliant brilliant meal and experience. Great service as we were served by the owner who gave a ya a run down of their establishment and where their food is sourced.
The meals were top notch, we had the duck and pork belly followed by a Baal of chocolate for dessert.
Under the current environment it was good to support local businesses, please support as much as possible.

Sensational evening to celebrate our 7 year anniversary. My partners comment was "The best dining experience in New Zealand" and he is not easy to accommodate! We ordered the squid and bread starters....Barberra nailed it! Providing a super flavorful beginning to our palates. For mains we both opted for the Pork belly and a side of duck fat potatoes. DELICIOUS, I cannot wait to return and try out the rest of the menu. Thank you to the team for the excellent service and unforgettable food. People, foodies, treat yourself and look no further than Barberra!

We thought this was the best meal we have had for a long time and we have had some good ones. The very helpful Waiter explained their food is sourced as healthily as possible and they grow a lot of their own. The whipped Chicken .entree was delicious and served in a novel way. The main of lamb I had was cooked perfectly and the dessert of chocolate Ball with Caramel sauce was beautiful. When served the waiter brought caramel sauce and poured it over the chocolate ball, which then opened up to reveal strawberry ice-cream inside. All in all a wonderful evening at a classy restaurant we totally recommend going to. We will be back for sure.

Dinner at Barberra went far beyond just a regular meal. From the moment we walked through the heavy curtains to a welcoming seating area, to the friendly story about Barberra's roots (figuratively and literally in the case of their roof top gardens that provide all of the fresh produce!) it was clear that Barberra is a cut above.
The cocktails were exciting and the food divine with special reccomendation to order the duck fat roast potatoes on the side.

This place was amazing!! We went with our teenage children and we all loved the entire experience. They only use locally sourced and sustainable food and the flavours were delicious.

A great selection of small and large sharing plates and great service to match. We definitely rate this as one of our favourite restaurants in Christchurch.

Service right from the start was impeccable and certainly stood out from many places. The passion for their food and drink choices was obvious. We were out to celebrate my son's birthday. As someone who has worked in hospitality he can be quite particular but was more than impressed. Watching the kitchen was an added bonus as who does not love being cooked for but watching adds a sense of drama Small plates of fried chicken, tofu for vege son and parfait were amazing oh and partner nommed his duck bao then tried all the rest. Said the bao was great. Presentation was amazing and sadly photographer daughter did not bring camera. Only food issue was steak over cooked but we are weird and truly raised in steakhouse love rare steak. Asked for medium rare but was well done...and charred. They were really busy so could understand and forgive them anything as atmosphere and service was stunning. Will be back soon as no one had room for stunning sounding desserts. Camera or at least phones with us as the food is as pretty as it is amazing mix of flavours and textures. Great find and glad we now know they are there.

The warm welcome from our host set the tone for the evening. The food was all excellent. The scallops entree were delicious and beautifully presented, as was every dish. We had three differant mains, the duck, lamb and venison which all received rave reviews. The deserts were amazing, a picture on the plate, with special menton of the bombe alaska which is worth another visit on its own. Ten out of ten on all counts for this restaurant..

My partner and I really enjoyed our time dining at Barberra. The service was excellent and they were able to cater really well to my partner's food allergies, ensuring that 3 of their mains could be adapted so he could eat them. The food was delicious and we had a really great cocktail too! We look forward to returning again.

Fantastic restaurant. Food was amazing - definitely a 10 out of 10 for all courses. This was a delayed Valentine's night out for us and we're so glad we chose Barberra. Everything served was delicious. Thank you Toby for your wonderful restaurant and friendly service.

We had a lovely dining experience at Barberra. The atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely. It's cool you can see the chefs cooking in the kitchen! The waitress was lovely and attentive and our meals came out fast! I had the duck which had a lovely smokey flavour which was divine. My husband enjoyed the venison too! The stand out was the chocolate sphere for dessert, not for the faint hearted sweet tooth though!

Stepped into a very stylish bar and reception area and warmly welcomed by attentive bar manager. Showed thru to the dining area and seated. Offered water and then we were given time to peruse the extensive wine/ cocktail / drinks menu. Claudia our waitress helped us with drinks then onto a small but varied menu. We chose a selection of starters but the spicy squid was top of them all and the beautiful dumpling that were complimentary were delicious. One main was ordered which was a lamb dish with a smoky BBQ flavor and perfectly cooked med rare. Two glasses of a rose recommended by Claudia was a great choice. Lovely atmosphere great staff you must go and try for yourself. Would be a great spot also for and after work drink looking over the river forwards the city. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and many thanks to the staff and chefs that made it possible with great food and good service.

The food here is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the venison tataki, left us wanting more. Desserts were also great, seeing someone order the chocolate sphere left us with food envy.
The restaurant also has a really nice atmosphere. Definitely be dining here again.

What a fantastic place! We were greeted warmly and made to feel very welcome as our host told us of the specials and explained other parts of the menu to us.I ordered scallops as an entre and was very pleasantly surprised to find 8 beautiful and delicious scallops arrive infront of me, my husband had the prawn croquettes also beautifully arranged and equally mouthwatering. For a main we both chose steak as we were informed that they had a custom built charcoal grill in their open plan kitchen – it was quite cool to see the workings of the kitchen while you ate.The steak was up there with one of the better steaks I've eaten, complemented by unique assortment of side dishes which were colourful and flavoursome. We added a feijoa vodka infused with cucumber cocktail to the mix -and boy was that worth it!Now onto the desert what choices it was hard to justhave one so I didnt I had 4!The petite four selection sorted me out nicely and my husband selected a chocolate sphere filled with strawberry icecream doused in hot salted caramel sauce which melted enticingly infront of us.The whole evening was such a wonderful experience we will be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Barberra last night. We were greeted warmly and shown to our table where we were given a complimentary taster dish. The friendly owner came and chatted to us and it was great to be able to see the chefs in the kitchen creating our fabulous meals. We shared some small bites to start and enjoyed the venison, the lamb and the fish of the day as main courses. I would strongly recommend giving this place a go - it is a not-se-well-known gem in a city of many restaurants!

We had a very nice evening, were greeted warmly & shown to our table. Service was attentive right thru without being over the top.
Loved being able to watch kitchen team working and preparing meals.
Food was lovely, and generous too, really enjoyed starter fried chicken, and the main of lamb. Felt the prawn croquettes could of housed a little more prawn maybe? Ribeye was great, as was the shared bom experience Alaska!!
Thankyou very enjoyable evening team.

This was one of the best meals we've had in Christchurch. Excellent service and an exceptionally well-run restaurant. The food was delicious, well cooked, beautifully presented and a good size. High quality and interesting ingredients used. This restaurant is not well known but should be sought out for a great value, top quality meal.

A lovely surprise walking into a warm, welcoming and colourful interior. Very classy. The food was amazing! We all had salt and pepper squid & the prawn starters which were simply delicious. Three of us ordered the rib eye steak with seasonal green vegetables and one order the lightly fried fish dish. The steak dish was excellent! The fish dish was slightly under done but enjoyed non the less. Definitely go back for sure.

We loved this resturant. Beautiful food, in a gorgeous setting.

Lovely atmosphere with comfy chairs and cool style.
Our waitress was really friendly and helpful.

The food was beautifully presented and amazing!

The highlights were the chicken parfait starter and the venison with beetroot main.

Love the menu here, a whole raw section, lots of amazing side options beetroot salad, stonefruit and mozzarella.

I'm GF and most of the menu was GF.

Delightfully treated to some unexpected chef gestures, some intriguing tastes, and a warm atmosphere. Seeing the food being prepared by a chef who looked relaxed and engaged and also experiencing the visual connection with the food in the kitchen with the food on our plate in front of us made our food far from anonymous. First table, but not the last. Will definitely re visit.

Four of us ate at Barberra for a family dinner and we all agreed the food was delicious. The restaurant has a chic contemporary feel and was already busy when we arrived. Three of us had duck for main and it was the tastiest I’ve ever eaten. My husband’s lamb was also beautifully cooked. It was nice to see a large selection of vegetables as side dishes - we tried out four of the 6-7 options and each was delicious. Everyone was very satisfied with their dessert and the service was friendly and efficient. Well done Barberra! We are fans!

This restaurant is amazing, highly recommend, definitely one of my top 3 restaurants in Christchurch. The food is exceptional.

- dined at Barberra on

I think Barberra is a bit of a hidden gem, and deserves to be doing really well. The space itself is nice; nicely open (including a view into the kitchen of the chefs doing their magic), and the tables are a nice distance apart. The service is friendly and helpful, without being hover-y.

The food is absolutely excellent. Christchurch is a fairly saturated market when it comes to contemporary fine dining, and to be honest I think a lot of the places are pretty samey and mediocre. Barberra definitely stands out as a cut above.

The food manages to split the difference between crowd pleasing (Fried Chicken, Ribeye Steak) and more interesting options (I loved that there were 6 different raw entrée options, Balinese curry, etc). Everything that I had was delicious. The Beef Carpaccio in particular really impressed me - I wouldn't have thought to pair strawberry and begonia with raw beef, but it was delicious, and quite different to any other variant on the dish I have had.

Overall, I was impressed with everything I ate, and left with several other dishes in mind to have when I return.

Would thoroughly recommend to anyone who is looking for somewhere delicious and a little different for their next date night.

What a great dining experience! Our waitress was knowledgable and attentive, and the food was next level!
We had the scallops and fried chicken for entree and rib eye and spicy lamb for our mains. (The duck fat potatoes are a must try!). It was a tough decision picking only a few items off their menu so we will definitely be back.
Also, massive compliments to the chef - for not only sending out amazing food in a timely fashion, but doing it all on her own.. even with multiple tables ordering at once. Highly recommended!

Visited as a guest at Barberra this week with a girlfriend. We dined for the evening service. for lunch just today. We started with a selection of three entree/light sharing meals(scallops, gin cured salmon and beef tartare). They were all cooked perfection and just broke away in our mouths with each bite! For main we shared the duck with misp eggplant and asparagus
Safe to say the char coal grill the duck was cooked was so tender and had a mild smokey taste, so good! I do want to say that, in addition to a nice meal, we had a delightful waitress. She had just the right balance of friendliness and efficiency. She recognised that we wanted time to visit and did not rush us and was attentive, Kudos team!

First time dining at Barberra and we have now discovered a gem. Both the food and service was nothing short of amazing. The owner chatted with us about their menu and the produce they used which is fresh and in season. We had the Duck and the White Fish Balinese Curry, both were delicious and followed with dessert aswell. So many options on the menu I would love to try next time. If you haven’t dined here yet, I would highly recommend you do so.

Enjoyed the food and tried a couple of things from the menu not normally found elsewhere. We ordered the Beef Tartare, the venison and the steak, along with a Penfolds port (yum) and Cider from the tap. Good atmosphere and it was warm inside on a cold night, and the waitress constantly present to keep us topped up and hosted. Thanks for a great night.

The food was amazing and service was great.
Interesting collection of food option. Some sound dishes have strange pairing and combination but it works and taste great. Highly recommended

- dined at Barberra on

Best restaurant in Christchurch. This place needs to be discovered by more people. Their locally grown produce, open kitchen, and personal management is just incredible, honest and refreshing. Because the owners are the cooks and there is only one waitress everything is always overseen and checked to be to the highest level. It is perfect every time not like many other restaurants. Could not recommend highly enough. Everything on the menu is to die for, personal favourites are the Ceviche, Duck breast and the Ribeye.

I took my friend to Barberra and absolutely everything about our lunchtime experience was stunning....I've never given such a review ever.
I could have chosen any offering on the menu and it was particularly good to see gnocchi and duck fat potatoes. My friend had the potatoes and it was a monstrous side dish. The side offerings are thoughtful and again I would be happy to try them all. My starter of chicken parfait with mustard and cornichons was a great combination and the thoughtful waitstaff brought out two side plates so we could share. We both had the cured salmon, prawn croquettes beetroot pureeas mains and it didn't disappoint. The presentation was gorgeous and the taste sublime. Service was excellent and very patient as we dithered over the choices we needed to make. I would rate this restaurant as being able to stand proud in London New York or Melbourne. We'll be back.

- dined at Barberra on

We are so impressed with the revamped cosy yet chic Barberra! Book and look forward to beautifully presented, delicious food complimented by considerate, unobtrusive service.

After calling ahead with a special request that was willingly accommodated, we were warmly welcomed on Friday night. First course highlights were tender salt and pepper squid on red pepper coulis and a small satay scallop plate bursting with two full skewers. The main course duck breast with hazelnuts and cherries topped a devine parsnip puree and the pomegranate chicken with feta was declared the most scrumptious my friend had ever eaten. The beef ribeye with shitake dumplings was as delicious and generous as all the other portions.

To finish the chocolate sphere was both spectacular and ample for two people, the petite fours melted in the mouth and the lime coconut panna cotta was light and refreshing. Our lovely server added some extra touches and had a knack of choosing the ideal times to check in on us. Space between courses was perfect to allow us to relax and enjoy the experience.

We are now spoilt for choice in Christchurch restaurants and Barberra is absolutely standing out from the crowd. We'll be back!

We ordered ceviche, leaves and bread as a starter. Ceviche I wish there was some tortilla chips aside or please serve it with a spoon! The sauce was so tasty and It’s shame if you can’t finish it!
Green leaves are simple yet refreshing.
As main we ordered chicken thigh and sirloin steak, and side we had duck fat potato and some vegetables. I had a chicken plate and I loved it, it was a best chicken plate in Christchurch and you must try. Chicken was tender and the I really enjoyed the crunchy rice on the top.
We were really full but we wanted to try some dessert and ordered panna cotta, I wish there was a big size of it, I didn’t want to finish it because it was so good!
Every plates we tried were delicious and full of taste and I’m glad I did try this place because now I find my favourite restaurant in Christchurch!

What a great experience amid the fears around Covid-19! We decided to continue our plans and were asked the right question about our travels in the past 4 weeks before we were allowed to enter. The staffing was light due to their own self-isolation requirements, however the owner/chef and the wait staff managed all their customers wonderfully. The food was fantastic, the staff were great explaining about some drinks not being available, we didn't mind. I'm pleased we supported a local business while we still could, it was a pleasant evening and a great atmosphere in the restaurant.

Great food and the Maître d' was really nice. The place itself is very open, inviting and super neat. The boys wanted some more pieces of the duck but were happy with their lunch overall :)

Three of us had a Friday lunch at Barberra, the service was great and the food was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the duck bao. There are other dishes I’d like to try so I’ll likely be back!

Fantastic Staff - A1 service with amazing attention to detail about the food and courses. Food was just truly divine - all the mains read deliciously and we found it difficult to decide which to order. Creative and tasty sides especially the chilli eggplant!! Venison was an outright winner!! Thanks for a great gourmet experience - we will be back!!

Had a lovely night, small plates, and raw offerings were fantastic. Would be Great to see some flair in the mains like the small plates as we found these to be a little bland unfortunately. Lovely to check out a new restaurant and would def be back
