With Barberra in its centre, Christchurch has never looked so chic. It's ultra-modern, cool and focussed around local ingredients.

To say its spacious would be an understatement. Its high ceilings, enormous windows (that are covered with uber stylish shutters) and hanging plants make it a wonderfully restorative spot. Its simple colour scheme of brown, black and white certainly proves that less is more.

Whatever you order, you can be sure it has been prepared with precision. Begin with some exquisite tapas or punchy starters, like tofu sticks or a sensational venison tataki; a small plate can really pack some flavour! Then it’s time to shine the spotlight on the mains that deliver on taste and presentation.

The duck breast comes with a coconut parsnip puree and the pomegranate chicken thigh with feta and cauliflower is zingy and fresh. If you want something light, look no further than their Ora King Salmon with watercress salad; it takes salad to another level with added beetroot puree and dill emulsion. How fancy!

I took my friend to Barberra and absolutely everything about our lunchtime experience was stunning....I've never given such a review ever.
I could have chosen any offering on the menu and it was particularly good to see gnocchi and duck fat potatoes. My friend had the potatoes and it was a monstrous side dish. The side offerings are thoughtful and again I would be happy to try them all. My starter of chicken parfait with mustard and cornichons was a great combination and the thoughtful waitstaff brought out two side plates so we could share. We both had the cured salmon, prawn croquettes beetroot pureeas mains and it didn't disappoint. The presentation was gorgeous and the taste sublime. Service was excellent and very patient as we dithered over the choices we needed to make. I would rate this restaurant as being able to stand proud in London New York or Melbourne. We'll be back.

We are so impressed with the revamped cosy yet chic Barberra! Book and look forward to beautifully presented, delicious food complimented by considerate, unobtrusive service.

After calling ahead with a special request that was willingly accommodated, we were warmly welcomed on Friday night. First course highlights were tender salt and pepper squid on red pepper coulis and a small satay scallop plate bursting with two full skewers. The main course duck breast with hazelnuts and cherries topped a devine parsnip puree and the pomegranate chicken with feta was declared the most scrumptious my friend had ever eaten. The beef ribeye with shitake dumplings was as delicious and generous as all the other portions.

To finish the chocolate sphere was both spectacular and ample for two people, the petite fours melted in the mouth and the lime coconut panna cotta was light and refreshing. Our lovely server added some extra touches and had a knack of choosing the ideal times to check in on us. Space between courses was perfect to allow us to relax and enjoy the experience.

We are now spoilt for choice in Christchurch restaurants and Barberra is absolutely standing out from the crowd. We'll be back!

My hubby and I went on a lunch date without kids for the first time in forever and the food and service at Barberra was amazing! They were happy to cater to my dietary needs and we were definitely not disappointed with the food. Hubby had the duck salad and it was huge and so tasty and I had Salmon, duck fat potatoes and seasonal green vege and the serving size was great and so delicious. We will definitely be back again!! Thanks for making our lunch experience so lovely.

This was amazing experience!
We ordered ceviche, leaves and bread as a starter. Ceviche I wish there was some tortilla chips aside or please serve it with a spoon! The sauce was so tasty and It’s shame if you can’t finish it!
Green leaves are simple yet refreshing.
As main we ordered chicken thigh and sirloin steak, and side we had duck fat potato and some vegetables. I had a chicken plate and I loved it, it was a best chicken plate in Christchurch and you must try. Chicken was tender and the I really enjoyed the crunchy rice on the top.
We were really full but we wanted to try some dessert and ordered panna cotta, I wish there was a big size of it, I didn’t want to finish it because it was so good!
Every plates we tried were delicious and full of taste and I’m glad I did try this place because now I find my favourite restaurant in Christchurch!

A really outstanding evening! We do have a tendency to be fairly harsh food critics but every single thing was well above average with a few highlights that were absolutely superb! The service was fantastic and the ambience really lovely even down to the choice of background music! We would definitely recommend this place to friends & family and we'll be back again for sure!

Barberra is a fairly newly opened restaurant, it has interesting decor keeping the lighting low, generally using darker colours, and using large blinds to restrict natural light. The chairs were surprising pleasant and much more comfortable than most restaurants. They have a good drinks selection offering a few traditional brews and a selection of less common drinks which is nice. They also have a good selection of cocktails and a large wine selection.
We tried two starters, the bread was reasonably bland, but when the butter was added it changed the flavor considerably and was a very pleasant combo. The chicken was also very nice mixed with a sweet sauce which was odd but very nice. For the mains we both tried a different meat. Both really enjoyed the flavor combinations.
We figured we'd give desert a taste too. I tried the chocolate sphere which was fun to watch, but was a pretty average desert on flavor. The chocolate sides were quite thick, and the bread crumb base was bland. Also tried the matcha cake, which was better but not stunning. Overall very nice, just a little disappointed by desert.

What a great place. Not squashed in next to other tables, light airy decor. Some really interesting food options and something for everybody. The desserts in particular stood out (must try the chocolate spheres)

Popped out for dinner with friends from the UK. Had an absolutely amazing meal. We all ordered something different and every meal was plated beautifully. It looked great and tasted even better. As a follower of Dr Gundry PP diet I had many options to choose from on this menu which sadly is not the case in so many modern restaurants. If your a fan of clean eating and sustainability you should check it out NOW. Definitely will be going again, would highly recommend.

The place was really nice inside and the waiter was nice. However the service was very slow, considering we arrived at 520 and we got served our main almost an hour later, being we were one of 2 customers this was very slow. We could see the chef in the kitchen and there really was no urgency. I really wanted to get some dessert but because of the timing we just didn't have enough time to order. I probably wouldn't go back because of this.

We arrived to a friendly front of house person who was very attentive throughout the night, and the decor inside is very nice, not to mention being able to peer into the kitchen.

We went for the ceviche to start, Horopito ash rubbed venison for a main and miso eggplant side. Everything was pretty good but not exceptional, the starter and main were lacking seasoning but the eggplant was super flavourful, very intense! We also shared the two Seedlip focused mocktails, one of these was quite vinegar-y but the pineapple based one was definitely a hit.

It makes for a nice evening walk to park a bit further away and experience the city at night, so don't let the small amount of street parking put you off!

We ordered a selection of starter plates to share, beautiful flavours & variety. We considered ordering more Cerviche & the chicken with maple dipping syrup as it was so delicious, but instead tried pannacotta which was very mild, a chocolate mousse & the quartet of bite size desserts. We had our 1.5 year old with us, and Barberra don’t have a highchair but as it was a quiet early sitting in winter with only the chef & 1 waitress, our child was able to move around our table without bothering anyone - this wouldn’t be the case on a busy night though. We had a great evening & will definitely return.

Had a great meal last night here. The restaurant has get decore service and the food was excellent. I had the duck and my partner the Venison with sides of duck fat potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The food was extremely well presented and very flavoursome. For desert we had a chocolate sphere filled with pineapple lump ice cream with a hot Carmel sauce. It was superb! Will be back again thanks for a lovely dining experience.

Great dining experience for a new establishment! The starters we had were delicious as well as the mains. You could have a few sharing plates as a main if you didn’t want to have a large main. We didn’t have dessert cos the rugby was almost starting but will surely be back again :)
