With Barberra in its centre, Christchurch has never looked so chic. It's ultra-modern, cool and focussed around local ingredients.

Choose from shared or individual plates. Pop in for a wine, a snack, just dessert or a full meal; the choice is yours! We have curated our menus based on fresh, seasonal ingredients and the flavours and influences of both local suppliers and the Pacific Rim. Both our food and beverage menus feature a large number of plants and flowers from our Sydenham and roof-top gardens.  We believe in a root and stalk philosophy, reusing as much of the plant as possible. Our proteins are all free range and line caught where possible. You will see a large range of our dishes are gluten free, keto friendly, and easily adaptable to make vegetarian or vegan.Our custom built charcoal grill is a huge feature to our open plan kitchen - if you are wanting to watch the kitchen we recommend requesting a high table when you book, or even to sit at the kitchen pass and watch the chefs while you eat.

To say its spacious would be an understatement. Its high ceilings, enormous windows (that are covered with uber stylish shutters) and hanging plants make it a wonderfully restorative spot. Its simple colour scheme of brown, black and white certainly proves that less is more.

A lovely surprise walking into a warm, welcoming and colourful interior. Very classy. The food was amazing! We all had salt and pepper squid & the prawn starters which were simply delicious. Three of us ordered the rib eye steak with seasonal green vegetables and one order the lightly fried fish dish. The steak dish was excellent! The fish dish was slightly under done but enjoyed non the less. Definitely go back for sure.

Lovely atmosphere with comfy chairs and cool style.

The food was beautifully presented and amazing!

The highlights were the chicken parfait starter and the venison with beetroot main.

Love the menu here, a whole raw section, lots of amazing side options beetroot salad, stonefruit and mozzarella.

Delightfully treated to some unexpected chef gestures, some intriguing tastes, and a warm atmosphere. Seeing the food being prepared by a chef who looked relaxed and engaged and also experiencing the visual connection with the food in the kitchen with the food on our plate in front of us made our food far from anonymous. First table, but not the last. Will definitely re visit.

Four of us ate at Barberra for a family dinner and we all agreed the food was delicious. The restaurant has a chic contemporary feel and was already busy when we arrived. Three of us had duck for main and it was the tastiest I’ve ever eaten. My husband’s lamb was also beautifully cooked. It was nice to see a large selection of vegetables as side dishes - we tried out four of the 6-7 options and each was delicious. Everyone was very satisfied with their dessert and the service was friendly and efficient. Well done Barberra! We are fans!

I think Barberra is a bit of a hidden gem, and deserves to be doing really well. The space itself is nice; nicely open (including a view into the kitchen of the chefs doing their magic), and the tables are a nice distance apart. The service is friendly and helpful, without being hover-y.

The food is absolutely excellent. Christchurch is a fairly saturated market when it comes to contemporary fine dining, and to be honest I think a lot of the places are pretty samey and mediocre. Barberra definitely stands out as a cut above.

The food manages to split the difference between crowd pleasing (Fried Chicken, Ribeye Steak) and more interesting options (I loved that there were 6 different raw entrée options, Balinese curry, etc). Everything that I had was delicious. The Beef Carpaccio in particular really impressed me - I wouldn't have thought to pair strawberry and begonia with raw beef, but it was delicious, and quite different to any other variant on the dish I have had.

Overall, I was impressed with everything I ate, and left with several other dishes in mind to have when I return.

Would thoroughly recommend to anyone who is looking for somewhere delicious and a little different for their next date night.

What a great dining experience! Our waitress was knowledgable and attentive, and the food was next level!
We had the scallops and fried chicken for entree and rib eye and spicy lamb for our mains. (The duck fat potatoes are a must try!). It was a tough decision picking only a few items off their menu so we will definitely be back.
Also, massive compliments to the chef - for not only sending out amazing food in a timely fashion, but doing it all on her own.. even with multiple tables ordering at once. Highly recommended!

Visited as a guest at Barberra this week with a girlfriend. We dined for the evening service. for lunch just today. We started with a selection of three entree/light sharing meals(scallops, gin cured salmon and beef tartare). They were all cooked perfection and just broke away in our mouths with each bite! For main we shared the duck with misp eggplant and asparagus
Safe to say the char coal grill the duck was cooked was so tender and had a mild smokey taste, so good! I do want to say that, in addition to a nice meal, we had a delightful waitress. She had just the right balance of friendliness and efficiency. She recognised that we wanted time to visit and did not rush us and was attentive, Kudos team!

First time dining at Barberra and we have now discovered a gem. Both the food and service was nothing short of amazing. The owner chatted with us about their menu and the produce they used which is fresh and in season. We had the Duck and the White Fish Balinese Curry, both were delicious and followed with dessert aswell. So many options on the menu I would love to try next time. If you haven’t dined here yet, I would highly recommend you do so.

I chose Barberra because of their interesting menu and it didn’t disappoint. My salmon was delicious and hubby enjoyed his venison. They have a large wine list and very nice desserts. Great for people who are vegetarian and gluten free. Will definitely go again

A combination of fantastic attentive service, extensive winelist and a menu with lip-smacking, fresh flavours all align to make Barberra a great place to dine. The Szechuan & Five Spice Fried Chicken is an absolute must-order!

Enjoyed the food and tried a couple of things from the menu not normally found elsewhere. We ordered the Beef Tartare, the venison and the steak, along with a Penfolds port (yum) and Cider from the tap. Good atmosphere and it was warm inside on a cold night, and the waitress constantly present to keep us topped up and hosted. Thanks for a great night.

Best restaurant in Christchurch. This place needs to be discovered by more people. Their locally grown produce, open kitchen, and personal management is just incredible, honest and refreshing. Because the owners are the cooks and there is only one waitress everything is always overseen and checked to be to the highest level. It is perfect every time not like many other restaurants. Could not recommend highly enough. Everything on the menu is to die for, personal favourites are the Ceviche, Duck breast and the Ribeye.

I took my friend to Barberra and absolutely everything about our lunchtime experience was stunning....I've never given such a review ever.
I could have chosen any offering on the menu and it was particularly good to see gnocchi and duck fat potatoes. My friend had the potatoes and it was a monstrous side dish. The side offerings are thoughtful and again I would be happy to try them all. My starter of chicken parfait with mustard and cornichons was a great combination and the thoughtful waitstaff brought out two side plates so we could share. We both had the cured salmon, prawn croquettes beetroot pureeas mains and it didn't disappoint. The presentation was gorgeous and the taste sublime. Service was excellent and very patient as we dithered over the choices we needed to make. I would rate this restaurant as being able to stand proud in London New York or Melbourne. We'll be back.

We are so impressed with the revamped cosy yet chic Barberra! Book and look forward to beautifully presented, delicious food complimented by considerate, unobtrusive service.

After calling ahead with a special request that was willingly accommodated, we were warmly welcomed on Friday night. First course highlights were tender salt and pepper squid on red pepper coulis and a small satay scallop plate bursting with two full skewers. The main course duck breast with hazelnuts and cherries topped a devine parsnip puree and the pomegranate chicken with feta was declared the most scrumptious my friend had ever eaten. The beef ribeye with shitake dumplings was as delicious and generous as all the other portions.

To finish the chocolate sphere was both spectacular and ample for two people, the petite fours melted in the mouth and the lime coconut panna cotta was light and refreshing. Our lovely server added some extra touches and had a knack of choosing the ideal times to check in on us. Space between courses was perfect to allow us to relax and enjoy the experience.

We are now spoilt for choice in Christchurch restaurants and Barberra is absolutely standing out from the crowd. We'll be back!

My hubby and I went on a lunch date without kids for the first time in forever and the food and service at Barberra was amazing! They were happy to cater to my dietary needs and we were definitely not disappointed with the food. Hubby had the duck salad and it was huge and so tasty and I had Salmon, duck fat potatoes and seasonal green vege and the serving size was great and so delicious. We will definitely be back again!! Wonderful experience! Service was great, and the food was delicious. We had the white fish curry and the venison as well as the duck fat potatoes and to start we had the Szechuan cauliflower. Only downside was we were way too full to try the yum sounding desserts or cheeses.

This was amazing experience!
We ordered ceviche, leaves and bread as a starter. Ceviche I wish there was some tortilla chips aside or please serve it with a spoon! The sauce was so tasty and It’s shame if you can’t finish it!
Green leaves are simple yet refreshing.
As main we ordered chicken thigh and sirloin steak, and side we had duck fat potato and some vegetables. I had a chicken plate and I loved it, it was a best chicken plate in Christchurch and you must try. Chicken was tender and the I really enjoyed the crunchy rice on the top.
We were really full but we wanted to try some dessert and ordered panna cotta, I wish there was a big size of it, I didn’t want to finish it because it was so good!
Every plates we tried were delicious and full of taste and I’m glad I did try this place because now I find my favourite restaurant in Christchurch!

Nice atmosphere. Wine list was good. Small plates were really good (our favourite part of the meal!). Mains were good but not great - some of the flavours seemed confused! Desserts were delectable but the portions were a bit too big actually. The bombe Alaska was sickly sweet with sooo much marshmallow. The brownie sandwich was massive and a little hard to eat actually. We would come back for wine and the small plates to share.

Food was great, though it's worth noting the size of the mains/large plates is not as generous as one might expect. We, a group of three adults, opted to share a number of items from each section of the menu - this worked well for us and was a great way to try the range of dishes on offer. The cocktail menu is also well worth a nosey if you're looking for a tasty tropical drink.
