What a hidden gem! We fell in love at first greeting. Staff were so friendly and helpful, was attentive to our dining speed offering next course just at the right time. We had the baked brie and famous prawns to start and they were absolutely delicious!! MUST order the prawns-there's a reason why it is the main picture on their website. For mains we had the waikunui fillet and the ribeye. Both just melted in our mouth and what ever puree that was on the plate(maybe yam?) complimented it pefectly. Pear, walnut and goegonzola salad was fantastic as well, delicious candied walnuts and sweet juicy pear. Match barvois would be perfect for those who want to be adventurous with their pallet but don't like too sweet. 50 Sweet also very nice- a great assortment of desserts. We would recommend this place to EVERYONE!! YUM!!

Our family of four had a lovely meal at 50 Bistro last week. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable. Two of us had the lamb rump, which was beautifully cooked, as was the fillet of beef. My son had the chicken, which was also amazing. The presentation of all three courses was top-class. Overall, we truly enjoyed our food and appreciated the high level of service that received. I highly recommend a visit to 50 Bistro...you will not be disappointed!

First time dining at 50 Bistro for lunch and will definitely be back. The food was great and the bistro had a nice atmosphere. Three of our party had the Wakanui steak as a main and it was melt in the mouth - best steak ever!

Walking into 50 bistro we were warmly welcomed by the staff and the beautiful setting. As it was my dad's 60th we decided to go all out and had 3 courses. Our table of 4 all got very different meals and they were faultless. The flavours all worked so well together and it was one of the best meals I have had out in years. The wine list is extensive as well. Definitely will be back for my next special occasion.

This is our first time at 50 Bistro. It was for our 40th anniversary and Father's Day. The food was excellent especially the steak which was cooked to perfection. Could not fault the staff. The stater was amazing, for the main meal we had the ribeye steak. This was cooked to perfection! We tried some of the in-house sorbet and ice cream for desert, this was totally awesome. The waitress Trish was fantastic, she knew everything on the menu and assisted us with our choices. This was one of our most pleasant dining experiences we have had in Christchurch. Thanks to all the staff!

The atmosphere was good. For starters, we had the seared scallops and chicken pate, which were both amazing. For mains, we had the fish of the day and pasta of the day, which both had a well-balanced combination of flavours and tasted good but nothing exceptional.

As this place is one of my favorite places to dine, it rather bothers me that the food is getting pretty SALTY these days. We had to ask for a new soup from the beginning and there was absolutely no taste but pure SALT in it as if somebody just poured a whole bottle in it. However, we got a new one and the Beef and Chicken main dishes were well presented. But, I must say that with the Seafood small dishes , they are still making it too salty.
I think Experimenting with new ideas must not be done with the frequent diners here. People who dine at the 50 Bistro is more to culinary tradition , expecting nothing but the classic best. Hope this comment helps.

The overall ambience was 4 out of 5. The food especially the ribeye steak that I ordered was delicately cooked and superb. However the soup and the entre menus that we ordered was quite questionable. The scallops were marinated in somewhat a too much indian fusion style so it was not western style nor asian style and it gave too much of strong flavor on top of the scallop. The main dishes are good and the lady incharge of the services when we dined were keen to see what needs to be done, 'When' so that the costumer does not have to wait for the attention s to be met.

Great night out. We had seared scallops and bread as entre. The mains were ribeye and lamb rump; both cooked deliciously and good sized. Service prompt and friendly. Indeed an excellent restaurant. Highly recommended.
