dinner

In Torbay, Auckland, Taj and Tonic serves a spirited tour of Indian cooking, from street-side snacks to slow-simmered curries, with a gentle Indo-Chinese nod for good measure.

Small bites set an inviting pace, while the glow of the tandoor and the pull of fragrant gravies carry diners from first nibble to final spoonful. Classic comforts meet regional spice - crisp samosa and aloo tikki lead to smoky paneer tikka and the playful heat of paneer 65 and chicken 65.

Mains lean rich and aromatic with dal makhni and paneer tikka masala, butter chicken served two ways, Indian and Kiwi, plus lamb rogan josh or goat curry. For a different tempo, the kitchen tips its hat to Indo-Chinese flavours with chilli chicken. Butter naan and garlic naan are made for mopping sauces, and the kids' menu keeps little palates smiling. A relaxed, share-friendly spirit runs through it all.
