lunch

On Auckland’s Hibiscus Coast, Cafe Blue Whale leans into the simple joy of a great toastie, pairing honest comfort with a dash of wanderlust. Its menu puts toasties centre stage, letting carefully chosen fillings and good bread do the talking.

The basil pesto chicken brings a garden-bright lift to seasoned, shredded chicken breast, all tucked beneath a bubbling 3-cheese blend. It's the kind of melt that arrives golden at the edges and generously sauced within, aromatic with basil and properly satisfying.

For something with swagger, the premium bulgogi layers tender, thinly sliced beef in a lacquer of Korean BBQ sauce, then crowns it with that same molten trio of cheeses. Sweet, savoury and smoky notes coil together, delivering a toastie with real depth.

Younger diners are not left out either, thanks to Nutella and banana toast, finished with a gentle dusting of icing sugar. It's an easy choice for comfort or a twist on tradition; diners need only pop in, choose a toastie, and let the cheese pull seal the deal.
