In the beautiful surrounds of the heritage Masonic House, you’ll find kingi, a restaurant that celebrates sustainably caught seafood, as well as wonderful wine from New Zealand and abroad.
Named in honour of the kingfish, kingi advocates for sustainable fisheries, working with fishermen and women who share the eatery’s values. Each dish on the menu heroes local ingredients and the people who gather and produce them. There’s octopus ceviche fresh from Tora Bay and blue cod caught off the Chatham Islands; pan-roasted snapper line-caught at Leigh and wood-roasted tomatoes grown in Clevedon. Going through the menu is like a culinary trip around the country.
The menu at kingi is a testament to the diversity and versatility of New Zealand’s seafood offerings and many dishes showcase the natural flavours and textures of the ocean’s treasures. In addition to the fantastic food, kingi also offers an extensive selection of wines, craft beers, spirits and signature cocktails to complement the dining experience.
An open fire sits to one side of the al fresco space, while inside a stunning chandelier designed by Dajiang Tai and Lumenworks shimmers over the dining room like schooling fish. The knowledgeable team of wine and beer enthusiasts are always on hand to recommend perfect pairings for your meal, further enhancing the culinary journey.
The restaurant envisions a brighter future for New Zealand’s fisheries, and for its food to create a deeper appreciation for the variety in the ocean, making it an ideal place to enjoy the fruits of Aotearoa’s rivers, coastlines and seas.
