Tucked within the lush rainforest of Franz Josef Village, a stone’s throw from the namesake glacier, Monsoon Restaurant and Bar channels the drama of the West Coast into a welcoming dining experience. With a commitment to environmental stewardship and a proud championing of the Tiaki Promise, it’s a place where good conscience meets good Kiwi hospitality.

The kitchen leans into comforting classics and bold, crowd-pleasing flavours. Think buffalo cauliflower tossed in Monsoon spicy sauce with blue cheese dip, or creamy seafood chowder to warm the bones.

Pizzas range from spicy chorizo and garlic prawn to the unabashed meatlovers. Burgers arrive stacked in brioche, while a prime New Zealand ribeye or slow-cooked lamb shank promises robust satisfaction with a choice of honest sides.

Equal parts lively social hub and relaxed refuge, Monsoon suits travellers comparing trail notes and locals settling in for the evening. The mood is easy-going, the portions generous, and the service straight-up friendly. Book a table, toast to the rainforest, and let the West Coast work its magic - one hearty bite at a time.
