Welcome on board! The Boat - Café & Bar is offering Wellingtonians and visitors the chance to enjoy lunch aboard a special piece of New Zealand history.
Charmingly named Tapuhi II, or the “Tugboat on the Bay”, this boat arrived at New Zealand's shores from Scotland in 1958. Today, it's docked up in Oriental Bay and has welcomed the public for over twenty years for great local food and a dining experience unlike any other. As well as unbeatable views of the big blue all the way to Petone, The Boat is a welcome escape from the city in the middle of the city. Needless to say, it's perfect for special occasions and for anyone looking for something different in the capital.
Can you imagine a more idyllic spot for lunch? Surrounded by the water glittering in the midday sun, soak in your peaceful habitat over any of their signature burgers. Whether you go for the classic beef and cheese, a crispy fried chicken number, pulled lamb or freshly battered fish, these delicious hand-helds are great for a quick bite or a lazy lunch.
Alternatively, really push the boat out with a ribeye steak with a meaty jus, hand-cut chips and a fried egg. The pork belly with creamy mash also offers a familiar kind of decadence. As for something lighter, you could go down the brunch route with a stuffed omelette, eggs benedict your way or the big breakfast. On board the The Boat Cafe & Bar, you'll find afternoons go swimmingly...
