Relaxation and good food with loved ones should never be adjourned. Instead, they should be spent at Sojourn, the cafe and bar that is making the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor a hotspot for not only its treasured overnighters.
After a brief closure, Sojourn is up and running again, and Wellingtonians and visitors couldn't be happier. What makes Sojourn so special is its wealth of uncluttered space, making it the ideal spot for some upmarket after-work drinks or a long supper away from the capital's hubbub. Sleek and elegant in an effortless kind of way, Sojourn is streamlined to perfection, leading diners from one space to another with the help of gently curving walls, wavy bars and a clever layout that isolates the dining room from the action at the bar. A vision of modern sophistication, Sojourn can be anything you want it to be.
The menu is compact but still manages to offer something for everyone. To begin, diners are invited to graze on delicate salmon rillettes or beetroot croquettes, with others preferring to opt for heartier options like the German rye bread or soup of the day.
Mains bring forth a carefully curated quartet of dishes from around the world. Thanks to NZ's fantastic South Island beef, there's no way a black Angus beef patty would be off the menu. Nor could the delights of the Asian cuisine, and they are offering the much-beloved chicken panang curry to satiate this craving. And for those who don't eat meat, they'll find the Mediterranean tagliatelle serves up plenty of fresh summer vibes.
