In Waihi, Waikato - Ingots Restaurant keeps things comforting and familiar, with a hearty approach that caters to appetites of every age. The tone's unpretentious, favouring the kind of cooking that lets honest flavours do the talking.

To begin, tender calamari dances with a zing of lime, while loaded wedges bring a playful richness that hints at comfort and fun. The main menu anchors the evening with a scotch fillet served with a choice of sides, and slow-cooked pork belly that melts into mash and lively slaw for those who like a little richness.

Other favourites include the "famous" Thai beef salad featuring scotch fillet steak and a double-stacked chicken parmigiana.

Little diners are looked after with options like chicken nuggets or beef burgers with chips, while dessert leans indulgent - butterscotch pudding with extra sauce and French vanilla ice cream, or warm chocolate mud cake finished with ganache.

Ingots Restaurant suits family catch-ups, casual nights and unfussy dinners. Swing by when the craving calls and settle in; with plates like these, you might just strike gold.
