An authentic Italian eatery right in the middle of Taupo, Sorrento is proud to put only the finest plates on the table in a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere.

Modelled on a traditional Italian bistro, Sorrento's Mediterranean soul embraces you with rustic warmth the moment you walk in. Where the walls also double as charming wine cabinets, families have a merry time at any of their larger tables and the outdoor dining area is open all year round. This eatery perfectly replicates the southern European lifestyle tens of thousands of kilometres away.

The menu hits all the sweet spots without trying to be too clever. The mains explore classic offerings from Italy, including a small range of pizzas that serve familiar flavours with no other pretences. Then come the pasta dishes, all of which take inspiration from the Italian family dinner table with homemade staples like spaghetti bolognese, pollo fettuccine and penne pomodoro.

Other mains delve into meatier dishes. Slow cooking appears to be their forte with slow-cooked beef cheeks, lamb shank and pork belly on the menu. But you won't hear any complaining because Sorrento gets that fall-off-the-bone tenderness right every time. A restaurant that keeps it simple and plays to its strengths with Italian family suppers, Sorrento is always a safe pair of hands in Taupo.
