A stone’s throw from Napier’s beach and set on leafy Clive Square, Portofino Napier pays homage to the art of traditional Italian cooking. It is the sort of place where the welcome is warm, the service assured, and the kitchen lets fresh, local produce do the talking. Knowledgeable and attentive staff guide the experience with easy charm, while the menu leans into Italy’s timeless comforts and convivial spirit.

Flavours arrive with an elegant simplicity: the sunlit freshness of bruschetta classica, the golden crunch of arancini classici, and the homely embrace of minestrone. Pizzas and pastas are handled with confidence, from Spaghetti alla Bolognese that is all deep savour and silk, to the sea-breeze lift of Risotto alla Pescatora. Oven-baked favourites offer a generous flourish — Lasagna al Forno layered and soothing, Cannelloni Ricotta e Spinaci rich with béchamel — each plate crafted with balance rather than bravado.

For those seeking something heartier, secondi such as Filetto Terra e Mare and Pollo alla Parmigiana nod to la cucina tradizionale, with simple sides like patate al forno and an insalata mista completing the table. Heavenly desserts beckon to close the evening on a sweet note. Make a date with Portofino Napier, settle in for la dolce vita, and let the conversation — and the courses — flow.
