I dined at this restaurant with a friend. This restaurant is outstanding in every way. Food was exceptional with all our dishes meeting such high standards. I feasted on the pasta for the day and homemade fries. I tried hard not to lick the bowls.
Our waitress was so attentive and the environment was stylish, and such a treat to see a kitchen in operation.
This restaurant should be so proud of it’s wonderful efforts in all area. I would rate you 10/10. I am coming back to try some other dishes. Many thanks.

What a simply superb dining experience thanks to Earl and First Table.  From the "get go" Earl nailed every aspect of the dining experience from food, service to ambiance.  Set in the dining SALT district Earl is the epitomy of modern bistro NZ.  A great dining and bar area with the best playlist ever.  I need to come back when I have time to linger and bop way into the night!.  The food was impressive - starting with the best complimentary breads (toasted - nice touch!) and the meals themselves were beautifully presented and delicious using clearly the best produce. Due to the large portions the sides (while not needed!) were great - its a shame there were just two of us to not try everything.  The service was warm, cosy but non obtrusive. This would be a great spot any time of day or night; groups or one on ones and we really look forward to going back.  I have already recommended to foodie friends and will continue to do so.

We had a lovely time at Earl! The food was fresh and delicious, the service was perfect and we felt very looked after. A unique venue with a delightful feel to it. I really enjoyed being able to watch the skilled chefs in the kitchen and I will certainly be back to try more of the menu!

These waiters and waitresses are versed in proper etiquette. The decor is clean and simply stylish. The food was delicious. The open kitchen allows you to watch the chefs cook. They pride themselves in providing a special and different wine menu. All together a very refreshing experience.

Earl is one of my favourite restaurants. The food is always delicious and beautifully presented with plenty of vegetables. Lunch yesterday was no exception and the service was great too, our waitress was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. My next visit will be for dinner! Definitely recommend this place

An amazing experience. Warm friendly welcoming staff on a wet cold day. The menu was explained as sparkling water hit the table. I chose warm lamb shoulder with smoked yoghurt and salad followed by chocolatey dessert. Food and service exemplary and both waiting staff were personable and attentive without being intrusive. Two and a half hours whizzed by in a cloud of absolute deliciousness. Will definitely be returning! The care and love put into the food was palpable taste and visually. Well done all at Earl for an amazing indulgent experience. Cheers Barbara

The food was very good, but the service was impeccable. I sorry I can't remember our servers name, (Scottish person), she was amazing. Set the right tempo and was so warm and engaging. Nice job EARL!! What a find!

My friends and I had a great time due to the friendly service and excellent food. It's a really calm atmosphere with the best play list for a long lunch.

Earl delivers a dining experience that is sophisticated yet unpretentious. The cauliflower salad was my highlight. Others enjoyed the seafood and fish dishes.

The food was priced in a way to complement the ambience. The restaurant looked modern, urban and very casual but with a hint of class. The open kitchen gives you a view of the staff doing their job and may I say that it is actually a quiet one , surprisingly. I had imagined an open kitchen to be noisy and full of swearing.LOL. Staff were polite and friendly and fun (especially the male waiter with his big personality shining from across our table) . The Clams, the croqueta ball and the fried Chicken were yummy. The front door is very hard to pull, make sure to use your muscles and try not to hurt yourself. We booked a table of 4 but only 2 of us came for the booking. We were able to fill the whole table space with just our orders. Maybe it would have been tight if there were actually 4 of us. Over-all I give them 5 stars anyway because the whole experience was pleasant and it makes me want to come back.

On a wet cold Saturday we had the most amazing lunch at Earl! The waitress was lovely and the shared plates we had were all so flavoursome and visually fantastic! We finished off with yummy desserts and a great strong flat white. Will definitely be back for dinner sometime soon!

Had a lovely lunch at Earl, one of the best meals out I've had in Christchurch. Service was great, polite yet personable. Loved the complimentary sparkling water! Food was delicious, recommend the fish crudo and organic winter leaves salad. Fit out of the restaurant is also very tasteful, it feels warm and welcoming with a vibe almost like visiting a friend's home for lunch. Highly recommend and I'll definitely be returning :)

What a wonderful first first table experience! Earl had a wonderful rotating wine list, with lovely staff who knew their wines well and offered us a tasting before we selected our drop of choice! This was paired beautifully with our market fish, mushroom and goats cheese gnocchi, and warm winter salad of roasted brusse, sprouts, beans and hazelnuts! Perfect for pre-show dinner on a rainy night in Christchurch! Xx

Earls was a great experience we were 3 friends catching up for lunch and it was our first visit to Earls when we first looked at the menu we were not sure if it was the place for us, however we decided to go with it and what amazing food. We all tried different dishes we wouldn't normally order and they were all equally delicious we had an amazing catch up in extremely comfortable. modern surroundings with excellent service

LOVED the food. We had the first four sharing plates and the chips. Couldn't leave anything, it was too good, but we were stuffed to the gunnels afterwards. Couldn't manage dessert - next time. I would say, get 2 fish skewers (there is one per plate) and drop one other choice.
We dealt with two wait staff and they were both fantastic. Their interactions with us enhanced our evening out - young enthusiastic New Zealanders with just the right amount of sass but not too familiar.
Only two days later, I've already recommended Earl to several friends and family and we've planned our next visit!

- dined at Earl on

If you hadn't been to EARL - do yourself a favour and go!
It is honestly now my favourite restaurant in Christchurch. I've been for lunch and dinner twice, and everytime has been superb.
The atmosphere is light, warm and fresh. The service is friendly and polished, they really take good care of you and its a very relaxing dining experience. The food is always just right - a perfect balance of flavours. Everything cooked perfectly, with lots of vibrant colours and lovely greens. Must haves are the Betty Riesling and the chips! Love it! So happy Earl is on the First Table <3

Was a lovely new modern restaurant. The food was really awesome and the service was of a very high standard.

- dined at Earl on

My new favorite restaurant in Christchurch. Have already been back again.... The bread to start melted in mouth, the Hors D'oeurves were amazing, exactly as explained bite sized but a good way to start the meal, I had the steak for main and i tried to savor every mouthful - So good. Great wine selection too! Loved it.

The staff were so welcoming upon arrival. When ordering the food, our waiter was knowledgeable of both food and wine. My friend loved the discussion over the local wines which were provided on the day! Tino Pai on the enthusiasm! We ordered the platter, trust the chef salad, the ceviche like fish on a mini tortilla and the beetroot salad. Everything was divine. Great effort team

We came to Earl serendipitously, we were going to book a different restaurant for lunch but accidentally booked Earl instead. It was a mistake that we were very grateful for as my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and look forward to going back. The menu was focused and simple but the flavor contained was very much like a firework going off all over your taste buds. The wine menu is ever changing and we enjoyed sharing and trying different wines under Megs passionate guidance.

My friend and I dined at Earl for the first time last night. The service was absolutely fabulous, very friendly and informative regarding the wine and food menus. The quality of the food was a definite 10/10, a wee hint of affordable fine dining. We both agreed that we’d happily return and spread the good word. Thank you for the amazing experience :)

Amazing! This was my first visit to Earl and it certainly won't be my last, from the moment i walked in the door I was impressed with the stylish decor and open plan dining area with a view of the kitchen. The service was top notch and the food absolutely sumptuous!! I had the free-range chicken breast which was so moist and tender and beautifully complimented with spring greens and a wonderful walnut sauce. I can't wait to return and work my way through the rest of the menu.

Not what we expected - guess we were expecting more of a cafe/bistro but this was fine dining with amazing ingredients, beautifully presented, knowledgable staff and brilliant service. Everyone loved their food and drinks were well thought out as well. Brilliant night thanks.

Friendly and attentive staff who were well versed with the wine and menu. Explained everything really well and took our orders without needing to write anything down. Enjoyed complimentary bread. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Chocolate creameux was to die for! Very nice atmosphere and decor. Highly recommend

Earl was an amazing experience from the moment we walked in. It’s clean and fresh decor Equally matched by the fabulous food we ordered.
It’s great to see complimentary bread And this was a great accompaniment with the starters.
We had the antipasto as a starterand this was ample for the four of us. Our mains of fresh snapper served with green beans and salad was beautifully cooked to perfection.
The crumbed pork chop and gnocchi also pretty amazing.
A great place and definitely recommend to all,

- dined at Earl on

We decided to leave no culinary stone unturned by sharing the bucatini, chicken breast, chef's creation, fish crudo and chocolate cremeux. There wasn't a single weak link to be found, the food was flawless and service was top notch. Two cocktails and one coffee later, there's no doubt we'll be back to add the burger and beef to our 'conquered' list.

We were very impressed with the food and service and will be back. The food really was delicious and the open clean interior was very welcoming and comfortable. Friendly helpful staff.

What a wonderful dining experience. Fresh and inviting ambience and decor, beautiful fresh flowers, light and bright and sparkling clean and yes even towelling hand towels in the bathrooms. The food was to die for. Fresh, vibrant plates with wonderful herbs for subtle and elegant flavours. Not too many choices on the menu to confuse and everything works well together whether you want to share plates or keep yours all to yourself. Fabulous wine list and helpful staff to advise on choice of wines. We went for lunch and now I can't wait to go back for dinner. Excellent thank you Earl!!

Lovely environment, great service and the food is yumbles. 'Sharing plates' are the way to go... wonderful fresh ingredients cooked to perfection and the salads are a great accompaniment... and if you've got room the desserts won't disappoint, a fantastic way to end a most enjoyable outing! Not a big menu just the right amount of options done well.

- dined at Earl on

Amazing, the man who served us was so knowledgeable and friendly. The water was topped up all night which was lovely. Atmosphere perfect, love that you can see into the kitchen. They don't take your order all at once so after starters you can decide what main you feel like then decide if you could go for more. Loved that. Wine was amazing. Food was quick, great quality and so tasty. 100% recommend.

Great service and even better food! Left with full bellies and good moods. Thanks Earl!

- dined at Earl on

My friend and I arrived and we were both undecided as to what we wanted to eat, we told the waitress to just fed us!
What a treat! She choose us 3 shared plates and a salad, followed by dessert and coffee.
What a treat! Every dish was perfect, tasty and well presented.
All in all was a lovely experience in a open, comfortable and clean environment, a perfect birthday lunch for my friend and I.

- dined at Earl on

Great food. Unfortunately, we were in a hurry so weren’t able to savour the experience. We will make sure we take it slowly next time. our group of 4, (who can be hard to please) were very impressed with the creativeness of the menu and the resulting flavours. We will be back!

Having wanted to go to Earl since it opened, Firsttable was the perfect opportunity to try it out. We were not disappointed. The setting is elegant and modern, and our waitress was attentive and helpful with food choices. For starters the croquettes were lovely - although a very small portion. Mains were the grain salad paired with slow cooked lamb and the fish. Both excellent, in particular the grain salad was massive and tasty - worked so well with the lamb. Would love to come back, even at full price its well worth it

We had a great time at Earl, the food was delicious and so was the coffee!

Our second visit back to Earl was very good indeed as this classy restaurant ticks all the boxes.
The moment you enter the Restaurant, you are in one stunning place well lit with everything at a high standard right down to the last detail.
Our meals came out in a reasonable time and were faultless.
For her, Salmon with the salad of her choice - and said to be the best Salmon ever tasted - That coming from a women who is a very good cook herself and who Salmon is a first choice whenever possible , that was high praise indeed.
I choose the slow cooked Lamb with an amazing Grain salad - the best salad ever and I am a typical guy, not one to rave about a salad. Not this time.
THE Deserts were again outstanding -
For me, the MILLE-FEUILLE Chocolate Cremeux,Coffee,Marscarpone and Hazelnut was very good and left me scapping the plate.
For her, the Poached Stone Fruit sable, Creme Fraiche Gelato was a beautifully presented desert and just outstanding.
To summarise, Everything at this Restaurant is planned and executed very well done right down to the very clean and modern toilets.
As you gather, I am wrapped about Dining at the Earl Restaurant in Litchfield Street and we are lucky to have this lovely restaurant right here in Central Christchurch.

For really excellent flavours in food this restaurant is tops. Our group of four all appreciated their meals excellent presentation and taste. As lunch dishes the meals were adequate in size but relatively expensive. The place felt clinically clean but for me lacked atmosphere, perhaps because there were very few tables occupied.

Earl was our choice for lunch today and from the moment we walked through the door, we were impressed.
The Atmosphere and Decor are both modern and stylish and really inviting with the layout plus the tables being well spaced and unintrusive.
Our waitress was excellent and despite being very busy , she was attentive and looked after us very well.
We both ordered mains and salads.
My better half had the salmon with the Nicoise salad and she was very happy with her dish.
I really loved the slow cooked Lamb, with Smoked Yoghurt with an excellent salad mix with greens, radish, celery, Fetta and a quality dressing.
For desert, we shared a Mille- Feuille Choclate Cremeux, Coffee, Marscarpone and Hazelnut - this was one genuine rich and decadent desert with flavours to really savor.

The Wine list is great too with thoughful planning and a theme of choosing a winery and several of their varietals backed by a small international range of wines.
I briefly had a look at the Cocktails and there were a few that we would have loved to taste.

I noted the classy wine glasses too and I complement Earl for their quality selections.

To summarise, for me, this is a fabulous option for those looking to enjoy a leisurely and high quality meal in a standout Christchurch Restaurant which you will find at 128 to 130 Litchfield Street.
Earl must be very close to the top Inner city Restaurant in Christchurch going on our experience today

Strolled through First Table looking to try a new restaurant to kick off date nights in the new year, but thought why chance it knowing that we have always enjoyed coming in to Earl and have always felt welcomed by Meg and the team. We love going with the Eat Like an Earl option and trust the team with our dishes, not knowing what we are getting and getting some recommendation on the wine match option adds to the experience of the evening. For the wife and I as repeat Earl offenders, coming here is like having a happy meal for your taste buds, the sad thing with that happy meal is when your eyes and taste buds are still keen for more but your stomach has called it quits for the night.

Hi Great food and service in a lovely setting. We had the eat like an Earl option. Only complaint would be that there was that there was too much food for my daughter and I to eat. Maybe we needed an eat like a Baron option! Will definitely be back but bring some male reinforcements if we want the chefs choice option.
