dinner

Set within the vintage charm of Hotel Ashburton, Clearwater Restaurant stands as a welcoming beacon for locals and travellers passing through the Canterbury townships. From sunrise to sundown, it offers a relaxed dining experience that blends the warmth of local hospitality with the comfort of familiar flavours.

The menu leans into the easy pleasures of a classic à la carte offering, shaped by honest technique and generous portions. Diners can begin with light bites such as chicken bao buns with crunchy slaw and spiced mayo or confit pork belly finished with a bourbon glaze.

Main plates celebrate timeless favourites, from beer-battered fish and chips served crisp and golden with chunky tartare, to a 6-hour braised Anzco lamb shank resting on parsley mash with broccolini and house gravy. Burgers arrive indulgently stacked on brioche, while fresh salads range from southern chicken to a traditional Caesar. Desserts carry a touch of nostalgia, with sticky date pudding drizzled in toffee sauce and a chocolate and caramel mousse cake finished with dulce de leche and dried raspberries.

Clearwater invites diners to settle in and savour each moment. Whether it is a long lunch, a lingering dinner or a quick stop on the road, it promises a delicious day out worth lingering over.
