dinner

In Tauranga, The Grocer turns the region’s larder into something quietly elegant. There is a confidence to its simplicity - the sort of place where a warm baguette meets Lewis Road garlic butter, and the table feels instantly generous. It is a kitchen led by produce and polish, favouring clean lines of flavour over fuss.

The sea is given its due with briny brightness and silk-smooth textures. Six Marlborough oysters arrive with a classic lift, while a prawn cocktail dressed in Marie Rose balances nostalgia with freshness. A taut, modern note comes from tuna crudo, cool, creamy and lightly infused with subtle spice.

Heartier plates lean into comfort with refinement. A roasted chicken Maryland is brightened by a crisp, vibrant salad, while braised lamb shoulder finds smoky depth and richness. Sides keep things convivial - double-cooked hot chips with spiced ketchup, and roasted confit cabbage with a nutty, earthy finish.

The mood is relaxed yet attentive, ideal for unhurried conversation and soaking in the atmosphere. Book a table, settle in, and let The Grocer do the gathering - your appetite will do the rest!
