dinner

The latest addition to Mount Maunganui's thriving gastropub scene, The Freeport offers unbeatable pizza and a craft beer for every occasion.

Where summer is an all-year affair, The Freeport is a free-spirited haven with palm trees aplenty and a stunning outdoor area where you can enjoy fabulous company and even more fabulous grub. The whole eatery is playful and fun, with candy-stripe walls, twinkling lights and informal benches and bar stools for you to park your behind on; in the evening it's as wistful as it is romantic.

But, whoever you've decided to dine with, you're guaranteed a good feed. Their pizzas are made in the traditional Napoli style and fired up in their pizza oven. Their selection includes a salty prosciutto number as well as gorgonzola with pancetta and caramelised onion. Alternatively, there are pub classics, like fish and chips, a chicken burger and prawn pasta with heaps of fresh basil.

Time to choose your liquid fun! Little Creatures, Mac's and Steinlager flows freely from their beer taps and you can find household names in bottle form. If beer ain't your thing, kickstart your evening with a gunfire espresso martini; if that doesn't put a spring in your step, nothing will!
