KATSUBAY brings a slice of Japan to Mount Eden, Auckland, with the quiet confidence of a kitchen owned and operated by Japanese locals. Specialising in ramen and katsu, it’s a place where craft meets comfort, and where attention to detail allows each classic dish to shine. This is food that soothes and satisfies, from the first crunch to the final slurp.

To begin, vegetable spring rolls deliver golden crispness, while pan-fried vegetable gyoza arrive with delicate, lace-edged skins and a soft, savoury filling, a gentle prelude to the heartier dishes ahead. The ramen bowls lean into depth and nuance: Shoyu ramen brings a rich, silky broth layered with umami, while vegetable ramen offers a cleaner, earthy warmth. Each bowl is built with care, from the springy noodles to the aromatic toppings that float on the surface like edible art.

For those craving katsu, options range from crispy chicken to melt-in-your-mouth pork or lightly fried tofu, each delivering satisfying crunch and comforting flavour in every bite. To finish, green tea ice cream offers a cool, subtly sweet finale, the perfect refresh after a hearty bowl of ramen.

Find your favourite, settle in, and let the steam, crunch, and calm of KATSUBAY transport you, chopsticks at the ready.
