Havana Bar and Restaurant

Havana Bar and Restaurant brings a slice of Cuba to Te Aro, tucked inside two lovingly preserved 19th-century cottages on Wigan Street. Born from espresso-fuelled daydreams at Havana Coffee Works and opened in 2003, it's long been a magnet for musicians, its rooms humming with stories, rhythm and good cheer. In 2010, one cottage evolved into an award-winning tapas restaurant, while the bar next door kept the spirit lively.

In the restaurant, an open kitchen sets the tempo for sharing plates that change with the seasons and roam internationally in influence, all grounded in the best local produce. At the bar, modern tapas flow from opening till close, designed to mingle with drinks crafted just an arm's length away.

Flavours swing from the simple pleasure of warm sourdough and aceitunas to plates like market fish glossed with lemon butter and capers, or carne asada with chimichurri and fries. Snack on jalapeño poppers with cilantro sour cream, then finish with silk-smooth chocolate mousse topped with berry compote or an affogato poured over Kapiti vanilla ice cream.
