Hidden away amongst the vibrant Courtenay Place is where Wellington residents discover Istana Malaysia Restaurant, a bright spot of authenticity amidst the city's international cuisine and operational since 1994.

Its warm wooden interior is reminiscent of colonial Malaya, making this little pocket of Malaysia a perfect spot for a banquet-style occasion. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and perfect for groups, whether it's a special ocassion or simply a get-together with friends, as Istana will look after you.

Istana Malaysia offers Wellington's only authentic Malaysian dining experience - with all meat 100% halal and a range of vegetarian and vegan options, you can feel good about what you eat at Istana. Each meal is cooked to order using fresh and authentic ingredients and methods. All spices are directly imported from Malaysia, guaranteeing that you will receive only the finest in traditional Malaysian cuisine. Each dish offers you a choice of mild, medium or hot to accommodate your individual tastes and preferences.

The restaurant strongly believes in serving all who enter its humble venue, regardless of dietary requirements. It has an extensive menu for vegetarians, vegans, and Halal. For those who seek something on the mild side or some who love the biggest hit of spice, Istana Malaysia has you covered.
