Nestled in Travelodge Hotel Wellington is Steps Restaurant which is making huge strides in the Wellington dining scene.

Not only does it boast a great location in the centre of NZ's bustling capital, it also has a unique dining space. One half of the dining area has been converted into a conservatory which means two things; heaps of natural light and a great view. What more could you want?

The menu is stuffed with comforting pub classics. Welcome cheat day with the Chicken Supreme which is accompanied by creamy mash. Try some of NZ's finest lamb with their lamb rump from Silver Fern Farm or their popular MOO MOO Burger...no prizes for guessing the meat. Vegetarians they haven't forgotten you! There's a herby, tomatoey pumpkin and ricotta ravioli to get stuck into.

And with a plethora of household beers, ciders and wines to choose from, make it an evening to remember at Steps Restaurant.

Very average experience. My Aunt has the salmon main special which she said was nice. I had the entree steamed pork buns were also nice but very small. There was a malfunction with the deep fryer so the wedges, which were asked to be brought out at the same time as the pork buns were brought out 20mins later after we had to ask when they would be ready, portion was huge for an entree size!! Could’ve easily fed two people as a main. We had to ask for more drinks which took a while to come out. And then we waited 30+ minutes for our main plates to be cleared and a dessert menu to arrive. My Aunt got a ice cream sundae on the house which was nice and I got the lemon tart which I asked to have ice cream with but came with cream, so had to ask the lovely waitress to send back and get changed. The lemon tart wasn’t very nice. Overall very average experience. The low point being the wait time, we were in the restaurant for over 2 and a quarter hours for a main and dessert.

Food and service were great. Very tasty. Just check your bill at time of paying. We didn’t and paid more than we should have.

Service and the food was really good my only problem is the amount of time it took for every meal to come out. Bigger portion sizes would of been nice but over all the food was excellent and fresh. Dessert was good aswel.

Food very overpriced - portions small - service slow. Apart from this it was ok.

Not great... we were the only two people dining. Food was average but slow. We ordered slightly off-menu but nothing complicated. Couldn't manage to deliver both meals at same time (not even a side of spuds to come at same time as a steak and salad).
Wouldn't recommend it for a night out.

The restaurant is beautifully set up in white theme. Lovely ambience. It has a large conservatory for dining as well. Got a bit cold in the evening. Wait staff is friendly.

I had Tandoori Spiced Prawn Cutlet for entree. The prawn was delicious but the Turmeric khichdi dressing was too salty. My main, lamb rump, was too bloody even though I asked for medium.

Our youngest, Caleb, had soup as entree. It was good. He had pork cutlet which he said was nicely done but the mash potato that came with it was too salty.
For dessert, brownie was ok but baked cheesecake was delicious.

There was a bit of wait between courses even though there were only 3 tables of diners.

Overall, if the food had not been over salty, I would have given it a 4-star.
