From farm to shelf to table, Hawea Store & Kitchen serves up an array of organic and spray-free vegetables, fresh local meats and artisan bread and transforms them into an appetizing menu with a wine list to match.

The restaurant's design is consciously sustainable to enrich the local community whilst inspiring guests. Warm and cosy in the winter, refreshing and cool in the summer, and with a breathtaking view of Lake Hawea all year round.

The kitchen’s philosophy is one of honesty and pride that shows off the region’s many talents. Not just the fruits of their labour, but the land the produce is grown from, the farmers who tend it and the chefs from all corners who prepare the food they offer, dishing up a world of culture and flavour.

On the evening menu, Central Otago wines and local beers feature alongside classic New Zealand dishes like pan-roasted salmon with ginger and lemongrass or southern farmed meats including Te Mana lamb ribs with black garlic and aubergine. Fresh seafood dishes like Chatham Island blue cod are a mainstay, complemented by seasonally harvested local produce.

It’s served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with professional hospitality. Hawea Store and Kitchen is a family-friendly restaurant with quiet nooks for more intimate dining. The upstairs restaurant has an inviting ambience while the outdoor deck area is the perfect place to unwind and absorb the views on a sunny day.

The menu varies seasonally, providing delightful surprises for regular diners and holidaymakers alike.

We are relatively new to the Wanaka region and had only recently heard about Hawea Store & Kitchen. Wow! We loved everything about it! The restaurant is upstairs and has a lovely view of the lake and mountains. It has been styled in a cosy, ‘modern rustic’ way. It is relatively small, which gives it an intimate feel. The food was exceptionally good. We shared a lamb shoulder with delicious side dishes including thrice cooked potatoes! Dessert was sticky orange doughnuts and mascarpone with pistachios! The menu is small but perfectly adequate, and the wine selection has been well curated. Another enjoyable aspect of the evening was the exceptional service. We will definitely be back and will be telling others about Hawea Store & Kitchen.

Lovely food! And a very nice French girl who was very well rehearsed over the menu! The atmosphere was great! Love the spot! We will be back!

Very welcoming and friendly. Food was of very good quality and well presented from a young couple obviously working hard and adding their own flair. Lovely setting with balcony seating for when its a warm and still evening. Would recommend and would return again.

Amazing food served in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken is so very moreish, and the puffed roti with harra is a revelation, and the beetroot puree that comes with the venison is so delicious! We absolutely loved the lamb shoulder - the pickled eggplant that accompanies it is a perfect match! Finished on a high with the dark chocolate tart which was perfectly sweet and not too rich - amazing! Will definitely dine here again and again!

Really great food and service.
The servings are generous which we appreciated. The venison entree and lamb mains were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The desserts sounded good too but we didn't have room for them. The wine list was great with a good selection available by the glass. And served in nice wine glasses, not the clunky ones restaurants often use, but nice fine proper wine glasses. I really appreciate that.
We will be back to try other dishes, they all sounded good.
