Cuisine: A La Carte, French
Price Point: Mains from Above $35

Experience the delights of French gastronomy on the beautiful shores of Lake Wanaka…

The stunning dining room is decorated in soothing earthy tones, while the al fresco terrace has shearling rugs to keep you warm on chilly evenings and offers glimpses of the twinkling water of the lake framed by mature trees.

Head Chef Mario Rodrigues revisits typical Gallic flavour combinations using fresh seasonal ingredients from the kitchen garden and the best of the Otago region.

Tuck into the likes of oysters or beef tartare, followed by a small but perfectly formed selection of mouthwatering mains. Think classic dishes such as confit duck leg and lamb rump alongside decadent sides such as fries with truffle salt.

The wine selection is naturally superb. Sample authentic Gallic labels, as well as the restaurant’s Maude wines. They offer sixteen wines by the glass, half glass and tasters through enomatic self-dispensing machines, so you can take yourself on a tasting journey.

If fabulous fine dining in a beautiful setting sounds like your idea of a good time, don’t miss the chance to experience this outstanding bistro.

Bistro Gentil
Location: Wanaka
Cuisine: A La Carte, French
Mains: Above $35

As we were there a few times in the past (of course yesterday the first time with First Table) it was the first time with a very great service - well done.
The food was delicious. Especially the entrees were outstanding in terms of taste, texture and presentation- we had pork belly and carrot, labneh.
The mains were great but unfortunately the fish was slightly overcooked (should actually not happen in this kind of restauarant) and my lamb rump was really tough and very hard to cut even it was properly cooked (what means the quality of the meat didn't match the restaurant requirements and this should be checked by purchasing the meat)
Later the dessert (cheesecake) was devine.
Last but not least all portion sizes were more than enough and therefore we just could share one dessert.
All in all, it was a nice evening and we hope we can catch another first table at Bistro Gentil.
