Set in Pokeno, The India Restaurant & Bar brings the warmth of Indian hospitality to Waikato. Aromas of charcoal and spice drift from the kitchen, hinting at a menu rooted in tradition and prepared with unhurried care.

The cooking leans on time-honoured techniques and the tandoor’s gentle smoke. Vegetarians are well looked after with paneer tikka and honey sesame cauliflower, while meat-eaters find satisfaction in seekh kebab and tandoori prawns. Sharing starts well with platters for two, a generous prelude to the main event.

Comforts abound in classics such as butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and dal makhani, each layered with the richness of slow cooking. Those in search of something bolder might try a fiery vodka chicken curry or a playful tandoori “drunk” chicken, charting a livelier course without losing balance.

Whether it is a quick lunch, a leisurely take-away, or a romantic dinner, this is a place made for lingering conversation and second helpings. Book in, follow the scent of spice, and let your evening curry on.
