When it comes to Mexico, they’re exactly what they say on the tin. That’s to say that they serve up some of the best Mexican food in the whole of New Zealand.

Not ones to blend into the crowd, Mexico makes a colourful splash on the high street. They let their stellar light design do all the talking, blending bright fuchsias, seductive reds and a whole heap of fairy lights to let everyone know where the party’s at. Inside, you can expect the same overload of good vibes with multi-coloured walls, tables in snug formation to encourage new connections and a selection of songs so catchy you’ll be dancing the salsa in no time.

They also have the party food sorted too. Specialising in informal yums, you’re encouraged to go all in (sans cutlery if you like) with giant quesadillas filled with slow-braised lamb shoulder and tender chicken thigh with chipotle mayo and roasted pepper. As for the tacos, you might need to use your hands for this one; just don’t let any fried jackfruit, smoky brisket or five-spice duck escape your notice!

Finally, what’s a party without some liquid fun?! Keep going past your bedtime with jug after jug of crimson sangria, a Mexican-inspired cocktail or a round or three of tequila shots. It’s what Mexico (the country and the restaurant) does best!
