It's hard to miss them over in Whaler's Gate. Housed in a grand stone farmhouse, The Backyard Cafe truly lives up to its hyper-local, organic vibe. As well as organic vibes, they have good vibes aplenty thanks to the heaps of natural sunlight that stream through the glass walls, the awesome regulars who drift in for a feed and a yarn, and their wonderfully chatty staff who will inevitably brighten your day tenfold.

Now that's the kind of vibe that'll persuade you out of bed for a homey brunch with the gang. Rise and shine with the Backyard fry-up that packs it on with homemade smoky beans, dry-aged bacon, sausages and toasted ciabatta. Other than that you have eggs bene, bacon butties and creamy mushrooms, all of which go delightfully with a piping cup of freshly-pressed coffee.

Later for lunch, you can still enjoy all the same brunch goodies, as well as bigger plates like crispy pork belly, spaghetti with a gorgeous duck topping, and a wonderfully wintery slow-roasted beef osso bucco (a traditional Italian stew). If you have the little ones in tow, the kid's menu will be your guide, as well as their stellar collection of milkshakes and smoothies. Although, who's to say an adult doesn't also love a cheeky milkshake? We certainly do!
