dinner

A cruisy cafe and bar for the whole family to enjoy, Ate Forty One not only boasts the best steaks in town, but it also has that homey feel that always has diners coming back.

Not ones for formality or pretentiousness, you will always be greeted with a cheery grin. It's wonderfully relaxed with the main dining area dotted with bar stools that have the perfect view of the telly should you wish to cheer your team on over supper. A few steps above are some more intimate bistro tables and if the weather is good out, their famous open-air decks are the best spot to while away a lazy afternoon or evening.

Such a trademark Kiwi setting means classic Kiwi bites! We're talking twice-cooked pork belly with crispy bacon fat potatoes, dry-aged striploin with kumara pave and lamb rump with a wintery parsnip puree and root vegetables. There's no doubting fish and chips' place on the menu, as well as some stellar seafood. And if you want to dispose of cutlery altogether, a classic beef, crispy chicken or battered fish burger will ensure that you can still punch the air in victory if your favourite team scores.

Finally, whether you're out for a quiet bite or a pre-feed before the real party gets started, peruse Ate Forty One's classic range of cocktails or cut to the chase with a giant fishbowl for you and your mates. Warning: your tongue might turn out an interesting shade of blue...
