At The Fat Duck in Te Anau, it’s all about fresh, local flavour and laid-back Southern hospitality. This award-winning gastropub brings the best of the region to the table, earning the 2025 Top NZ 50 Gastropubs Supreme Award for good reason.

The menu reflects a deep commitment to locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, with much of the produce coming straight from the Fiordland and Murihiku regions. Start with favourites like the salt and pepper squid or duck wontons, and don’t miss the locals' go-to: popcorn chicken.

Pub classics are done right. The fish and chips is a menu mainstay, with the catch and seasonal sides changing regularly to keep things fresh. The twice-cooked pork belly is another standout, delivering rich flavour and melt-in-your-mouth texture that always hits the mark.

The lively outdoor paved seating is perfect for long summer evenings, while the indoor dining room offers a cosier setting when the weather cools down. Swing by, settle in, and taste why The Fat Duck is one of the country’s most celebrated gastropubs.
