Serving hearty meals from the Southern United States with that unmistakable Kiwi twist, head to Muskets and Moonshine for a chilled one.

Just like its name, everything about this place is playful and fun. Chairs come in a gorgeous muddle of different shapes and sizes and chandeliers hang from the ceiling whilst the big game is being shown on the big screen. And it wouldn’t be complete without its roaring fire and board game cupboard!

You’d better be hungry for their characterful jambalaya, a bold dish with spicy rice, shrimp and pork belly (the veggie version is just as delicious!) Alternatively, go for the award winning Hereford beef rump or the crispy herb crumbed chicken, an unabashed crowd-pleaser. You can even share a whole roast chicken or merino lamb shoulder with your choice of sides.

Wash it all down with one of their tasty beers on tap and their signature cocktails are worth a sip too! Giggle Water? Sign us up!

As my grandmother would say, "OH MY DAMN!" Far out that was an excellent meal. One of the best we've had in Queenstown - the brisket burger was juicy an delicious, the battered jalapenos dipped in blue cheese were DIVINE, and the fried okra has a special place in my all time list of side dishes. Click the button book this place and thank me later!

We were welcomed with big smiles, warm atmosphere and our table prepared.
The Espresso martini’s we’re excellently prepared with a hint of creamy chocolate.
Entrees came timed perfectly and were absolutely amazing. The cheeks are highly recommended.
The mains ordered were the ribs (succulent and generous), rump steak (melts in your mouth) and the gumbo (a southern delight with a plethora of perfectly cooked seafood, the mess only made it more enjoyable).
The waiting staff were very friendly, the staff in the kitchen were excellently presented and had big smiles when greeted.
Complimented with an open fire place and nice lounge setting. I will most definitely return for another meal in the very near future.

Very friendly staff and great atmosphere for a cheap night out. The food was very fat heavy, which is something we wanted after a long day on the slopes, so we ordered our fair share of deep fried goods. Recommend the fried jalapenos and the roast chicken, matched with the Smokey bbq sauce.

Would come back again

Would highly recommend for a family meal. They have a great range of board games - guess who was a favourite! The Lamb was incredible! Husband had a nice prawn cocktail. Drew looked after us and she was amazing. We will be back.

What a fantastic evening. From start to finish our waitress went above and beyond to deliver amazing service. The food was delicious, we ordered the Merino Lamb Shoulder to share. The lamb was cooked to perfection and tasted exquisite, the sides tasted great and complemented the lamb brilliantly. Our waitress made sure we always had a fresh cocktail or glass of wine heading our way, was extremely friendly and even with a hangover made my partner happy he left the house. The lamb was so big me and my partner couldn't finish it and they even offered us to take the rest home (which of course we accepted). I can honestly say I would have been more than happy to pay full price for the meal and service given, so to get the opportunity on First Table was great. We certainly won't hesitate coming back for drinks or for dinner! I'd highly recommend.

My wife and I went for dinner for our last night in Queenstown and the thing I’m most disappointed about Muskets and Moonshine is...that I had such a big lunch beforehand. The portions were extremely generous that despite my wife and my best efforts couldn’t get through it all. We ordered beef cheek croquettes to start, followed by crispy herb crumbed chicken and blackened game fish with a side of shrimp popcorn. All were very tasty and again portions (particularly the chicken) were massive! The rub on the chicken was delicious and it was so moist and beautifully cooked. We left very full, happy and with satisfied belly’s that’s for sure. Would’ve loved to have seen the restaurant full and buzzing as we were the only table the whole time we dined in but we still felt very cosy and relaxed. Was fun to have a couple board games to play in between courses as there is a selection of games scattered around some of the tables. Service was so friendly, attentive and professional. No faults whatsoever with Muskets and Moonshine! Hope to return on our next trip to Queenstown.

Our mains were delicious (we had to restrain ourselves from licking the plate)! I had the Southland Lamb rump, my husband had the sous vide beef steak, both were beautifully tender. The pannacotta we shared was most delicious too and also beautifully artistic. Food was also very reasonably priced.

Would most definitely recommend Muskets and Moonshine!

First time at Muskets and Moonshine, nice decor with antiquey things dotted around. The menu is pretty big and a good selection of drinks including some fancy looking cocktails. Portions were large so we just had mains - the steak was excellent as was the tuna. Would definitely eat here again - maybe aiming for a night when they have live music. Thanks guys for a fun and tasty night!

From the get go it was an awesome restaurant! Our name was already on the table (in contrast to other First Table restaurants who coincidentally, told us our table wasn't ready and would we like some drinks while we wait). Our waitress Drew was warm and welcoming, she also told us a bit about the place, the books they have and offered to change the TV to a sport my husband follows. The food was great and there was lots of it! We went with a share platter, our favourite was the brisket burger and battered jalapenos. The espresso moontini is also a must have here. We had dessert by the fire (on a cozy vintage couch) while I read one of the vintage books they had on the shelf, very different to other venues where we just leave as soon as the food is gone. The triple chocolate brownie was brilliant.

Had a lovely meal here after a big day on the mountain. I must rave about the kids meals. Not a beige only offering. My son loved the chicken schnitzel with mash, peas and gravy. The meal was substantial in size. Great service and inviting atmosphere.

I came 3 days prior to my reservation as I had a gift card to use and Drew the manager has been so patient with me in trying the card. I came in on my Birthday Monday 2nd and Drew the manager is there and helped me out with the card. Atmosphere was so lovely especially with the fireplace. As a local and first diner at Muskets, Drew helped us out with cocktail options and tap beers. I loved the Sticky Fingers and Man on the Moonshine! She helped us with Starters and Mains, what a great host! We had Hot Wings and Potato Croquettes as Starter and Pork Belly and Chicken with Corn as Main. Food is absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back! Overall experience was superb! Best Customer Service, Great Food and Lovely Atmosphere!

It was a really warm and inviting atmosphere. The host welcomed us as soon as we walked in eventhough she was busy. We were seated quickly and attended to well! Early dinner at Muskets and Moonshine to celebrate mum's 72nd. Kids 5 & 7 constantly entertained with Guess Who and Connect Four. Kids got a choice of food, were served first and were tucking into ice creams as we had our meals. Lovely host, great service. Perfect place for families, kids ended up on the floor playing more games, no problem. Everyone enjoyed their meals, my blackened fish with mango salsa was delish.

There was plenty of food well cooked and tasty we would definitely go back but order less as portions were a little large for my wife and I.
