Perched above Buckingham Green, Swiftsure peers across picturesque Arrowtown and its surrounding peaks. Shaped by the Man O’ War team’s journey from Waiheke Island to Central Otago, this relaxed all-day bistro marries the flavours and seasonality of the South with alpine verve. Expressive pours from Swiftsure and Man O’ War Vineyards make fine company for long lunches and late glasses.

The setting unfolds over three levels, from sun-drenched terraces to a cosy fireside retreat, offering a perch for every season and mood. A vibrant gathering spot come happy hour, it suits after-work catch-ups and après-ski unwinds alike, all wrapped in easy Arrowtown charm.

In the kitchen, produce leads the story. Think provençale whitebait on sourdough or cured Akaroa salmon with caper crackers and dill, followed by a chicken caesar Milanese or seared Akaroa salmon with broccolini, hazelnut and beurre blanc. For convivial tables, roasted lamb shoulder with chimichurri or a ribeye on the bone invites sharing, while beer-battered steak fries prove hard to resist. To finish, choose between vanilla crème brûlée and an apple and hazelnut crumble; thoughtful zero-proof sips range from a passionfruit mojito to a garden spritz. Little ones are looked after, too.

The wine list spans icons and local heroes alike, from Laurent-Perrier La Cuvee to Man O’ War Dreadnought Syrah and a Swiftsure Young Vines Pinot Noir nodding to Bannockburn. Claim your spot above the Green, raise a glass, and make a swift occasion of it.
