Nestled in Ayrburn, off the Lake Hayes-Arrowtown Road on the way to Arrowtown, The Woolshed Bistro is a culinary nod to the rustic charm and pastoral finesse of Central Otago, where generous, uncomplicated dining meets classic elegance for a lively atmosphere as inviting as a warm, roaring fire on a crisp evening. Head to The Woolshed, and you’re immediately enveloped in an ambiance that’s refined yet cosy. The decor is a harmonious blend of traditional wool textures and sleek, modern lines, perfect for a leisurely lunch or an intimate dinner. The sunny deck, overlooking a tranquil stream, is an ideal spot for an afternoon, while the fireside offers a snug retreat as the day fades into dusk.

Begin your dining experience with handcrafted breads, partnered with local olive oil and smoked butter, before diving into the ocean's bounty with spiced crispy squid with harissa mayo. A must-try is the Southland venison tataki, a dance of delicate textures and bold flavours, accented with ponzu and nashi pear. Equally enticing is the grilled octopus, its tender parts enveloped in a black garlic emulsion and chilli, with a pop of green apple to cut through the richness.

The experience wouldn’t be complete without a sip of something special, and The Woolshed’s staff are eager to recommend a wine pairing from their very own vineyard to complement your dish. For a more casual drink, ask about the seasonal beers that capture the essence of the region in a glass. With each sip and savour, The Woolshed @ Ayrburn promises an outstanding dining experience that celebrates the beauty and bounty of the Central Otago region.
