Cantina Nicola brings the colour and conviviality of a modern Mexican cantina to the heart of Nelson. Rooted in taqueria culture and powered by house-made tortillas, it delivers bold, honest flavours that balance coastal freshness with slow-cooked depth in a lively, relaxed setting made for sharing.

Sea-breezy bites set the tone, from oysters with aguachile rojo, lime and tajin to bright, crunchy market fish ceviche. From the taqueria, fried prawn taquitos ‘gobernador’ arrive crisp and cheesy with salsa roja, while beef birria leans indulgent, served with rich consommé for dipping.

Larger plates invite a leisurely spread—market fish parrillada with charred spring onion and pepitas, or lamb barbacoa with pickled onion and salsa verde. Warm tortillas and corn chips keep things hands-on, building a natural rhythm of sharing across the table.
