Nightlife in Chch has been constantly evolving since the quakes and diners are always on the look out for casual options that let them transition from evening meal to cocktails and dancing.
MIshMash 77 1450True to this ideal, central hotspot Mish Mash has introduced a casual tapas-style sharing menu with one big twist. Instead of many tiny dishes, they’ve created giant dishes that give proceedings the atmosphere of a banquet.
Sharing is caring at Mish Mash
“We have a philosophy of constant experimentation,” bar manager Jerome Warburton tells us, “so we’re always looking to push new ways to enhance the drinking and dining experience.”
Fish2Instead of ordering individually, groups can share options such as a whole slow cooked Lamb Shoulder for 4 or Whole Fish for 2 surrounded by a multitude of small side plates including rosemary potatoes, honey bacon carrots, and kale crisps.
Currently Mish Mash is serving whole Tarakihi with radish and capers, and switches things up regularly depending on the catch to ensure that they get the freshest fish on the market.
North Canterbury Wines
“In terms of wines, we’re very focused on Waipara at the moment,” says Jerome, “especially wineries Pegasus Bay, Muddy Water, and Georges Rd. In terms of a great wine match for a banquet, coming into Winter I’d recommend the Muddy Water Pinot Noir, which we have available by the bottle or by the glass.”
MishMash 1173 1450Cocktail aficionados in the mood for something zingy should try Mish Mash’s unique tipple Beets Me. With a base of Henessey VS Cognac and port, a balance of deep savoury flavouring is created by beetroot gastrique, blackberry puree, rosemary, and lemon.
Come for the Banquet, stay for the Beats!
On Friday & Saturday nights local DJs including Jamie Grooves and Infrared bring the Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop and House to Mish Mash from 10pm to late. Monthly futuristic music night FlyPlay features local hero GETSET playing an array of fresh beats and experimental soundscapes from artists like Kaytranda and Flume.
