Set in the heart of Gisborne’s inner harbour, The Works pairs a relaxed spirit with a distinctive sense of place. Polished concrete floors, exposed timber ceilings and brick walls create a warm, contemporary scene, while a young, dynamic team keeps the mood welcoming and unpretentious. It's the kind of room that invites you to settle in, take your time, and enjoy.

In the kitchen, seasonal, locally minded cooking leads the way. The menu moves with ease from coastal comforts to bright, globally influenced plates: golden-battered fish and chips arrive crisp and generous, while pan-seared salmon plays against red cabbage and silky cauliflower puree.

A playful streak shines through, from crumbed nobashi prawn paired with smoky paprika mayo and lemon to kimchi fried chicken lifted by pickles and onion, each dish balancing texture and flavour without fuss.

To finish, classics are given the cosy treatment: sticky date pudding with vanilla bean ice cream, walnuts and caramel sauce, or a triple chocolate brownie accompanied by berry compote for the sweet-toothed. Kumara fries and a fresh garden salad keep things on the side.

Reserve a table, lean into the easy harbour rhythm, and let The Works work its magic!
