Standing tall in Christchurch for 20 years, this eatery has a solid legacy which has people coming back time and again.

Opened in1999 and was shut by the earthquake in 2011. Reopened again 2014, and bigger and better.

Using the freshest ingredients sourced from local suppliers, their sushi and sashimi is melt-in-the-mouth delicious. Enjoy the best of east meets west sushi with their spicy sashimi tempura roll and some classic NZ's favourite chicken teriyaki roll. Featured also the only teppanyaki sushi, the Lava Roll, with crab salad sushi wrapped with thinly sliced raw fish, grilled, flambe and blowtorched on the teppan grill and finish off with Japanese mayo and sweet sticky soya sauce and top with Japanese caviar. One-of-a-kind sushi that only can be sampled at @Tony's. The widely adored Tatsutage (deep fried marinated chicken) also features as well as something called a ‘spider roll’ which is only for the brave.

They serve much more than sushi. Try their most popular teppanyaki mains, the @Tony's Combo, which featured a combination of seafood, chicken, beef, vegetables from the teppanyaki and served with rice and miso soup. There’s plenty to choose, from gyoza, edamame to pork belly and even ostrich is on the menu- and whilst you’re there, you might as well get a bottle of Sake in to perfectly match all the dishes or try their in-house constructed cocktail, mango sake bellini or their mighty Yakuza cocktail made with absinthe, chartreuse, egg white and shoju.

What better to finish with their homemade, Green Tea ice cream and for the adventurous, try their Wasabi Cheesecake.

They are the busiest teppanyaki restaurant in Christchurch, so get your first table booking in now.

On arrival we were seated at the teppan and given time to browse the menu with some guidance from the waiter.
We chose a king prawn starter cooked in front of us which was nice with the sauces provided as accompaniment.
Our mains came from the kitchen as they were prepared using the deep frying method, whilst we watched others prepared in front of us.
We enjoyed our meals and left fully satisfied with our 50% First Table deal, it was pleasing to see the restaurant full of diners by the time we left.

The service is first-rate. The server is very nice, kind, always smile and willing to answer all questions we have. The food is very fresh. We order the mix of land meat and seafood. The chef is very careful preparing all the food. It is delicious, and I would recommend everyone to have a try. It is a little bit noise, but it shows how popular this place is. Will definitely be back.

Service was attentive and polite. The food was fast and super tasty. It was great to be able to talk directly to the chef and ask for his recommendations on meats I had not tried before like Ostrich.

@Tony's may be among the hustle and bustle of Riccarton Rd, but inside it's a paradise of Japanese cuisine.

My husband and I have a yearly birthday ritual (for his, and mine - twice as nice) that consists of a visit to @Tony's. Every year it's the same, and every year we adore it; walk in, be greeted by the lovely and warm staff, sit at a good table (or at the teppanyaki bar if we're feeling adventurous), and order two torikatsu chicken mains, two Somersby apple ciders, followed by two teppan banana desserts please and thank you very much.

While we usually opt for a table on the far side of the restuarant rather than sit at the teppanyaki bar as sensory overload is an issue for me, if you want to see flames roaring, chefs artfully slicing and dicing food, and culinary acrobats of a very impressive nature, you need only sit at the bar or one of the nearby tables to do it.

The food never fails to deliver. First up is a delicious miso soup which is the best I've tasted anywhere in New Zealand. Next come the chicken tenderloins, always cooked to perfection, coated in the most delicious crumbs, and complimented by three tasty sauces which each have a distinct depth of flavour. The accompanying salad is crisp and fresh, and the rice fluffy and chopstick amateur friendly. Last, and always to the delight of the husband if I need a bit of help finishing mine, comes teppan banana wrapped in thin pancakes with icecream and fresh fruit drizzled in a flambé rum and honey cointreau sauce. Yes, my mouth is watering just writing that down.

If you're looking for an authentic Japanese cuisine experience that delivers every time, then look no further than @Tony's. We're not usually creatures of habit, so perhaps the fact that we've been going there every year for 9 years (with a break after the earthquakes) for the same consistently excellent experience speaks for itself.

Staff was friendly. The food was ok, we quite enjoyed the katsu and miso soup ( deep fry dishes) but the teppan yaki was not pleasant to eat with burnt veggies and seafood; they were not cooked but burn from outside; thank you.

Absolutely delicious meals at Tony's Riccarton. Watching cooking in front of us was amazing as we now know what we will order on our next visits!
A real shame wasabi cheesecake is not available but got to try their tiramisu and refreshing greentea ice cream.

Excellent service from all staff. The food was okay. Had better but also had worse. The Ostrich, Beef, White Fish and Salmon were melt in your mouth tender, but the Scallop, Prawn and Mussel were over cooked. I was looking forward to tasting the Ostrich but could only taste Garlic. We have been to the Ferrymead Tonys Teriyaki and had a set menu and that was Amazing!.

Great contemporary restaurant.
Fish and meat was exceptional quality.
Flavour of salad was great. Flavour Vegetables was ok.YumYum sauce was average on prawns, also a little more could have been used.

Our food was not cooked right in front of us, despite us sitting in front of a cooking space. There was no interaction of chef with us. We feel this is usually part of the fun going for Teppan Yaki.

I haven’t been to @Tony’s for a couple of years but remember it being fantastic... and it still is. 2 of us dined, we shared tempura veg for a starter and shared teppan chicken, lamb and veg for our main. The veggies were all delicious and the chicken and lamb were both tender and perfectly cooked. No room for dessert unfortunately. The service was fabulous. We will definitely be back.
