breakfast

In Rangiora, Fools of Desire is a café with a mischievous streak, championing local, free-range and seasonal produce. A little different by design, it is a tucked-away favourite for those seeking a big breakfast or a fresh brunch and an easy catch-up.

Mornings lean indulgent: Banoffee French brioche toast arrives draped in caramelised banana, maple syrup and crowned with vanilla infused mascarpone, blueberries and finished with hazelnut dukkah. Savoury appetites find their match in a hearty breakfast burger, stacking a pork sausage patty, hash brown, American cheese and a fried egg with mayo and rocket sauce.

From 11.30, the mood shifts to bright, sunlit flavours and comfort done right. Ceviche sings with coconut, chilli, vanilla and lime, lifted by pico and pineapple, while the smashed beef burger brings diner-style satisfaction in a brioche bun with American cheese, pickle, berg, killer sauce and French fries.

The drinks list keeps things lively, from a frozen margarita to a boozy affogato, plus iced chocolate, coffee or mocha and a keto bulletproof coffee for those who like it rich. Smoothies skew tropical or berry-bright, and there is a concise roll call of wines and spirits. Drop in for brunch, linger for lunch, and let desire do the driving—foolish in name, wise in choice.
