Cuisine: Contemporary, Degustation

A cool Kiwi eatery led by one of Christchurch’s most celebrated chefs.

Having represented New Zealand on the world’s cooking stage more than once and appeared in countless Good Food Guides, Darren Wright’s list of awards is as long as your arm. The secret behind his continued success? Tireless energy to keep pushing boundaries and deep relationships with quality local suppliers.

His food is part of classical cooking and part hall of mirrors. Degustation menus might include the likes of spiced carrot soup, groper with avocado puree and cheese souffle with roasted fig. Look out for quirky delights such as a fully edible avocado (made from goats cheese and chocolate) and deconstructed fruit crumble disguised as an apple.

The spectacular cocktail list is equally creative, while wines are expertly chosen to complement the cookery to perfection.

Throw in moody interiors and warm, knowledgable service lead by veteran restaurant manager Mark Harris and you’ll see why this restaurant is well on its way to becoming a modern classic.

Fantastic service. Friendly knowledgeable staff. The food was divine. Especially the lemon tart

Excellent from start to finish. The dining room had lovely decor with low lighting - felt upscale yet relaxed at the same time. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes and wines. The food was all beautifully cooked and balanced, each one unique and interesting. The wine pairings were wonderfully complementary and outstanding wines in their own right. All in all, a lovely first experience at this restaurant - was very impressed and will be back!

Well, well, well... if you've been to a Degustation Restaurant before or not... and you haven't been to Chillingworth Road... get your skates on and get there fast!... We have dined at Chillingworth Road on a few occasions now and each time we can't wait to go again. The service is impeccable but the food is outrageously yummy. It's cooked to perfection and is presented accordingly. We had the 9 courses on this occasion and what a treat after treat after treat. Yes, probably more for a special occasion but then again... I'd invent a special occasion if that's what it takes.
Make a booking and prepare yourself for a Degustation journey that will leave you feeling - that life is just great!

We recently returned from a trip to Europe, the delicious experience we experienced last night was better than we have enjoyed in Chch or around the globe. The service was second to none. Decor, ambiance and flavors were outstanding. Thank you. Leah de Friez & Brett Chambers

First degustation ever. Was really nice, the staff were amazing and the food was super tasty. We tried the 9 course and were happy with everything (though the cheese wasn't as much to our liking, but that's just a personal thing).

I would recommend this place anytime, however, do keep in mind that you will be there for a good chunk of time, I believe we were there for just over 3 hours for the full experience.

The service was excellent with the wait staff describing each course very well and were very polite. Some of the food was good, particularly the deserts but the mains were very average, probably the toughest eye fillet I've had and a lot of the flavors just didn't work.
