A Christchurch institution for over 150 years, Carlton Bar & Steakhouse has had plenty of time to perfect the almighty steak. Now, after a major transformation, it's bigger and better than ever before.

Outside it's a glamorous, upmarket European restaurant whilst the inside takes on a dramatic, contemporary aesthetic. Grand and spacious, Carlton has inhabited this expansive space with a shimmering ceiling feature, plush furnishings and a rather grungy feel that keeps it cool and contemporary. Charcoal pervades throughout whilst luxurious gold decor punctuates the space with dramatic opulence.

Such a special space demands equally special food. Bringing their own luxurious spin to Kiwi cuisine, Carlton is serving the likes of pork chops with creamy kumara mash, bourbon-braised short ribs with potato gnocchi and an almond and cauliflower quinoa. And, from the Marlborough Sounds comes the most exquisite salmon served with buttery baby potatoes and seasonal greens.

Finally, the steaks. All ethically and sustainably sourced, you will find Wakanui rump, ribeye, sirloin and other spellbinding cuts cooked to absolute perfection. All served with crispy-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside beef dripping roast potatoes, veggies and your choice of sauce, they give steak all the respect it deserves. And you might as well too with a pint of freshly brewed beer. Here's to another 150 years of Carlton!
