There's nothing better than a meal by the sea, and Butterfish has proved this to a tee. Located in Russell, Bay of Islands, this eatery has become a favourite spot for locals wanting to dine at the core of their community.

The menu is filled to the brim with delectable dishes, all with their own unique twist. For a true taste of the sea, it's hard to go past their battered oysters with lemon wedges, or instead take a tour of the ocean's bounty with the tandoori marinated pan-seared fish.

However, the land is just as important here, with every kind of patty for burger lovers to choose from. Tuck into a bacon and egg burger, topped with a juicy fried egg. For a wide mouthful, go instead for a classic beef, bacon, and cheeseburger.

Butterfish is Russell's answer to dining by the beach. It is perfect for outdoor feasting, where diners have a front-row seat to the sparkling waters and quintessential scenery. Inside is equally inviting, immerse yourself in the stunning coastal vista, all the while with a belly full of seafood and a glass of Central Otago pinot noir in hand. Blissful.
