Bird On A Wire Parnell

New Zealand knows a thing or two about top-notch rotisserie chicken - so if anybody's mastered the craft, it's Bird on a Wire.

This joint was dreamt up by three friends tired of tasteless barbecued bird, so one day they struck out on their own and created their very own "Birdo". Now, the Parnell branch has just sprung open about a 10-minute drive from the CBD. Décor-wise, it's your typical Bird joint with unfinished timber, graffiti, and mismatched light fittings.

The menu here is focused; they aim to do one thing and do it very, very well. They cater to all appetites - you can choose to share an organic rotisserie chicken between four, or stack one up yourself in a sandwich. Speaking of 'sangas', the Korean fried bird burger topped with a jammy egg looks set to be a smash hit. Or, why not keep it simple with a crispy buttermilk fried chicken with a side of beer battered chips?

Bird on a Wire has opened at 423 Parnell Rd, it includes recycled materials, some of which were sourced by the Parnell team themselves. There's a great 'bird beak' entrance off the car park, and a back mural which, according to its artist, not only adds beauty to the eatery - it helps dampen the noise. One thing's for sure, this place knows their way around a bird.
