Bird On A Wire Parnell

New Zealand knows a thing about top-notch rotisserie chicken - so if anybody's mastered the craft, it's Bird on a Wire. This joint was dreamt up by three friends who were tired of tasteless barbeque bird, so one day they struck out on their own and created their very own "Birdo". Now the Parnell branch has just sprung open, about a 10-minute drive from the CBD. Decor-wise, it's your typical Bird joint with unfinished timber, graffiti and mismatched light fittings.

The menu at Bird on a Wire is limited, and that's a good thing. They aim to do one thing, and to do it very, very well. They're selling free-range BY half or quarter birds, as well as an array of BBQ meat, fish and salads. They cater to all appetites - you can choose to share an organic rotisserie chicken between four, or stack one up yourself in a sandwich. Speaking of 'sangas', the Kiwi Burger with house sauce looks set to be a smash hit. Or why not keep it simple with a side of chunky chips, honey slaw or a spicy corn salsa?

Bird on a Wire has opened at 423 Parnell Rd. The place looks great, have a look at the photos, it includes recycled materials, some of which were sourced by the Parnell team themselves. There's a great 'bird beak' entrance off the car park, and a back mural which, according to its artist, not only adds beauty to the eatery - it helps dampen the noise. This place sure knows its birds.
