Secret Thai Garden

Tucked away in Otahuhu, Secret Thai Garden's a family affair with roots that reach back to 2002. Trained chef Aranya, known as Tommy, grew up in Surat Thani before meeting Kiwi-born Nobby - together, they set about bringing an authentic slice of Thailand to South Auckland.

Hand-crafted teak furniture, sourced piece by piece from Chiang Mai, anchors a lush, landscaped setting shaped with the help of their friend Christopher, turning dinner into a gentle wander through the grounds.

In the kitchen, freshness leads the way. Tommy eventually welcomed two Thai chefs from different regions to take the lead. This allowed her to spend more time in the dining room, greeting regulars and newcomers alike, while the loyal team grew alongside the restaurant's rhythm.

On the plate, these ingredients translate into bright, aromatic Thai flavours: coconut-rich curries from red to green, wok-fired dishes glossed with oyster sauce or fragrant with garlic and pepper, and herb-packed salads with lime and heat.

Noodles find balance in tamarind and soy, while jasmine rice and roti are there to soak up every last drop.
