Vibrant European plates in a low-key setting, paired with an excellent selection of premium wines and local craft brews.

Step through the distinctive cyan-painted doors into the casual dining space, which contrasts natural materials such as wood and stone with chic industrial touches.

Chef-owner Eugene Sokolovski has won multiple awards and as you peruse the menu it will quickly become obvious why.

Start with nibbles such as local oysters, before moving on to seared tuna with mango and seaweed and a magnificent selection of meat dishes. Prime Angus beef fillet with your choice of sauce is a delicious taste of Kiwi food culture.

Dinner at this sophisticated little spot is the perfect way to end to a day on Mission Beach, located less than five minutes away.

We arrived for our 5:30 table and were warmly welcomed. We had a choice of table as the restaurant was very quiet. We decided to share a sourdough bread with garlic for a starter and ordered a scotch fillet and a sirloin steak for mains. All washed down with a bottle of River Retreat Cabernet Sauvignon at $42.

The sourdough bread was just right between 2 of us while we waited for our steaks.

The steaks were both ordered medium rare and both arrived more rare than medium but that wasn't a problem for us but others might have wanted them cooking a little longer. They were very generous sizes and beautifully tender. We ordered 2 sauces to accompany the steaks - a red wine jus and the hunters sauce. These were possibly slightly over reduced? so it was a shame that they weren't served separately so we could decide how much to pour. For sides we ordered chunky chips with truffle aioli and roasted cauliflower with hummus and spiced dhukkah. The chips were perfect and plenty for 2 to share. The cauliflower was not really to our liking probably because we found the spiced dhukkah overwhelmed the dish but it was nicely cooked and a good portion for 2 to share.

We couldn't resist having a crepe each for desert so had a lemon crepe and a salted caramel vanilla streusel crepe. Both were huge and what we would call proper pancakes like grandma used to make. Absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back to try those for a Sunday brunch.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would definitely recommend it.

A very nice decorated French restaurant with beautiful settings and a great location. Staff are warm-hearted and welcoming, introducing the dishes with fresh ingredients. Food are delicious and tasty. I'd like to recommend the oysters, ground lamb and steak especially. Have a try!
